I have thought a lot about having a baby. More and more, mostly because i have tons of new mommy friends and I lost mine over a year ago. My partner doesn't think we can raise a child because we are both women and she is majorly concerened. How do i ease her discomfort? She doesn't want the child to be picked on for having lesbian parents. But kids get picked on reguardless. Are there other same-sex couples out there that can help us with the decison id really appreciate it.
Re: wanting to conceive same-sex relations.
Counseling could be an option so you are both on the same page. As a parent to school age twins, we've talked to the kids about being gay and sometimes a woman loves another woman or a man loves another man. Kids can be mean, but I certainly hope that most (or at least mine) wouldn't pick on a child for something like that. Good luck with your decision.
Personally, I had at least 3 friends growing up that had same-sex parents. Maybe it was just how my friends and I were raised, but it was never something that we made fun of them for. If you had a dog with a stupid haircut...fair game. If you raise your kid to know that some people suck at life and make fun of kids for stuff beyond their control, then they'll be a little more prepared. Nothing to be self-consious of and no reason to not have kids, IMO.
