Pregnant after a Loss

Cervix check question

Hi Ladies! I go for my first cervix check on Monday, at 18wks. For those that have gone for this, how is this done? Transvagingal? Regular abdominal u/s? Do you get to see the baby too?

Thanks!

Re: Cervix check question

  • I've had cervix checks done both ways. In the er, the douchecanoe doctor did it with his finger, he was way rough and dislodged part of my mucus plug. When I got back in town and followed up with the doctor they used transvaginal to re measure because they didn't trust the er measurement and then the doctor used his finger to feel because the er doctor said it was finger tip soft... it wasnt...

If they're measuring it I know they said transvaginal gives a way more accurate measurement, abdominal u/s at the er said 3.2, transvaginal 5 days later said 4.7.

  • Every cervical check I had was done transvaginally at MFM and they would end the visit with a regular u/s so we could see the LO.

  • If they check your cervix abdominally I would highly suggest demanding it to be done transvaginally which is much more accurate. My old ob checked it abdominally and when I switched ob's bc I felt something was up my new ob checked (transvagonally) and came up with a difference from 3.5 to 2.0 .. Two days later I was getting an emergency cerclage! I'm sure your cervix is okay but just wanted to share my experience and how important I feel it is to have your cervix checked correctly. Good luck!

  • 9 times out of 10 they do a transvaginal u/s. My MFM also got a good look at our little lady at that time, but no guarantee that they will.
  • I had cervix checks every 3 weeks from about 18 weeks on.  They did it with a transvaginal u/s (and they also checked the size of the baby with a regular ultrasound every time as well).  I stopped at 31 weeks.

  • Thank you ladies! This encouraged me to give a call to the office and ask- to which they said it will most likely be transvag. Hopefully they'll let me have a look at the baby too!
