Middle name help

edited December 2014 in February 2015 Moms
We are conflicted with middle names for our little girl. Madison Lynn or Madison Sue, Lynn is my middle name, I have always liked it, and my inlaws think thats what I should use. Sue is my grandmother's middle name, and during our IVF journey she gifted us $6000 for the RE's portion of the procedure. All we keep saying is the twins would not be who they are today without her. It would be different eggs, different sperm, and the outcome of a pregnancy could have been totally different also.

Gah Im conflicted! I like the flow of Lynn more, but the meaning of Sue.
What is Grandma's first name? Maybe you could use that?
This is the same problem we are having, Carolyn is her first name and we were trying a play on that at first but couldn't find anything that worked.

Hm yeah that's pretty rhymey sounding. Maybe Carol or Caroline? Or just go with Sue. Ella's mn doesn't exactly flow well either, we just went with it. :p

  • This baby's name doesn't flow as well as I like either - Sydney Lillian - but it's for DH's grandma. Eventually you say it enough and it will sound normal. Plus it hardly gets used anyway.

  • Madison Lynn is a little rhymey. I chose Sue. Madison Carol sounds good also. I love the idea of honoring your grandma.

  • I love the idea of honoring your grandmother and the reasoning behind it. I would go with Sue or maybe Carol.
I may be partial though, because we are naming our baby's MN after a grandmother-figure in DH's life.  I think meaningful names are special, and even more so in your case.

  • I actually like the flow of Madison Sue better, plus the meaning rocks.

Madison and Lynn, both ending in the N sound, ends up sounding funky to me.

    Great name!

  • I think both are lovely names, but after hearing your explanation for Sue, it definitely gets my vote!

What about Madison Lyn (one 'n')?

I know it's a little different, but it would be your name AND your grandmothers name (the 'lyn' from Carolyn).

  • At first I was all Maddison Lynn but after reading think sue is a Great Way to honor gma!
  • I like the sound of Lynn, but the meaning of Sue. I would totally go Sue because of the meaning.

  • I say Madison Sue because Madison Lynn sounds so close to the first name Madeline (madelyn) that I think the first and middle names would run together and just sound like a long first name.

Also you get to honor your grandmother with Sue.

  • I had to vote Sue. It's my middle name, named after my grandma also. So great choice!
  • I like the idea of honoring grandma. However, hearing the middle name Sue, I think "yee-haw." I think it is hickish and unfinished sounding. I feel this way with middle names such as Sue, Ann, Anna, Jo, Rae (which is my middle name) ect. Sorry. :( I think it is a great idea though and a great gesture!

I like how Lynn sounds with Madison, but honoring is nice too. Tough choice!

  • I love Madison Sue. But you could also do Madison Lyn... For Carolyn as well.

  • I prefer middle names with meaning over names that flow, since beyond the new baby stage you really don't use middle name much to care about how it sounds.
