GTKY-- Hobbies

Guys, M went to bed and I'm booored.

What's y'all's hobbies?
Bonus points if you have pictures, or a website or something.

**(Diaper collecting, diapering your child, and buying diapers don't count).

  • pre-kid or post-kid?
Both lol. But anything poo-related is null and void.

  • Pre kid - snowboarding, road tripping, boating, hiking, drinking, beaching, actually staying in shape by biking, running, going to boot camp and playing sports. Pretty much we were never home. I guess I don't have traditional "hobbies."

Post-kid - very few of the above. We do plan to stick some skis on M this year and push her down a hill but have zero expectations that it will go well. Road trips are out. We took her boating a couple times this year but naps make it pretty hard, same with the beach. We drink at home (not really), and never work out. We are always home.

I guess the bump has become my hobby?
@stringy813 we are twins, I think.

Pre-babies, hiking, camping, skiing/snowboarding, krav maga, jogging, home improvement, going to the gun range, rugby

Post-babies... drinking wine and short trail hikes when the weather is decent. And Harley riding when grandma can watch the girls for a few hours. (ok, that's pretty cool, but it's rare we get the opportunity since A is still nursing)

Pre-kid, I did a lot of reading and loom knitting of scarves/hats. I also spent a lot of time (a lot) on Facebook and goodreads. I deactivated FB just before getting pregnant, am hardly on GR now and stopped knitting.

I still read though and am now slowly rereading "Her Mother's Hope" by Francine Rivers. thebump has definitely become a hobby LOL. Oh yeah, I hope to start hiking and running again too.

    ETA running actually means jogging.
  • I'm an artist. I haven't painted in over a year, citing pregnancy and new child taking up all my free time.

I also like to sew and decorate my house.

    Here are my paintings :)

You are so talented and that lampshade is awesome!
  • Pre baby- biking, jogging, played in the wind ensemble at the community college, road trips, dogs. Now... I'm typically too exhausted by the end of the day to do anything. The only time I play my sax is when I'm teaching.

I would love to deactivate Fb. But I'm pretty sure all my relatives would think I died.

Thank you! And my husband stepped on that lampshade and I had to throw it away.

  • Pre-kids: Crocheting, reading, working entirely too much, camping, collecting CDs (compact discs, not diapers), kick-boxing.

Post-kids: Gossiping with the other PTO/Football/Karate moms, doing the books for the PTO, pretending that I might have time to go back and get my master's degree someday

But @stringy813‌ is a scat fetishist. It's the hobby she references most on this board.

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.
  • I really love cooking, though shopping for and assembling elaborate meals is getting harder and harder as LO sleeps less and becomes more mobile. Running (really slowly). I like crafting with my friends but I'm not great at motivating myself to do it without them around. I also really enjoy craft beers and drinking wine in the bathtub. I'm including a photo of my last race (Turkey Trot), and one of the beb all bundled for a jog in cold weather.

  • I read lots and lots. I have a book review blog that I spent more time on than my actual job(before I SAH). I haven't had as much time for it since F was born but I'm hoping to get back into it more now. I also create blog designs, but I'm tired of that. I'd rather read books and talk about them with the tiny amount of free time I have.

  • Photography (I met my hubby at a photography workshop).  I don't have many new photos up on the internet these days, but this is my current Flickr page https://www.flickr.com/photos/24570326@N04/

My old Flickr page is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kelly43604/

I love reading, mostly non-fiction or space opera (like scif-fi but with fewer explosions).
I love hiking and going for long walks, but weather and safety concerns have kept me from doing that lately.

Before I finally found success I loved sailing. It's actually how I met my husband. We belonged to a sailing club back in our hometown and there were a lot of club races and regattas. I was regular crew on a Catalina 25. I had never felt the same kind if passion about anything before I discovered sailing. What's interesting is that now I really could care less. My husband is still sailing in a club where we live now but my entire world revolves around my daughter and I'm not missing it at all. I assume it's just because I tried for so long and had so many losses so now I'm all about loving on my girl, but it will be interesting to see if I shift back in that direction as she gets older. I hope I do because my husband and I really wanted to teach her to sail.
LOVE sailing. When I went away to college, my grandparents sold their Sunfish and I was so upset!

I haven't had a ton of time for me since E was born but it's improving slowly.

Some of my hobbies include reading, crafting (scrapbooking, knitting, card making, stuff like that), yoga and dance.

Oh and I also love to organize!

Fun! I'm an artist too, but haven't painted in forever. I started a mural in M's room but it's not done  yet. I'm going to work on it as soon as we finish our table and then I'm really going to try to start paining regularly again (and hopefully sell stuff).

  • I love shooting handguns in a shooting range, but that gets expensive fast.
I don't own a gun either, so I've always got to rent.

I honest to goodness can't think of one single thing I've done regularly that is unrelated to kids in many many years. So...parenting is my hobby? Should I be sad about that?
This is me, but for just the last year, obviously.

I realized last night my husband's hobbies (playing in his bands and pistol team) involve going out of the house, whereas mine (silkscreening/stenciling and gardening) involve staying home, so mine always get put on the back burner.  Because I feel like if I'm home, there's something else more pressing.
Oh so much this.  I have actually been thinking about picking up a hobby where I have to leave the house just so I'll make sure I do it.
This is why I love BWI.  It's once a month and requires me to leave the house.  I do take C with me to the meetings, but there's so much for him to see that he's never complained.

Plus my husband totally gets that I need the time.  I am considering take some sort of class.  Maybe Yoga?  Like beginners yoga for those with no flexibility?

  • hiking, camping, backpacking, painting, playing basketball, kickball, anything outdoors really

I have only gone hiking a few times since M was born and haven't done much else. I can't wait to take him camping next summer. We just started making a dining table though and I can see it leading to more woodworking projects and hopefully one day when M sleeps better I can paint again.

  • I love to read, quilt, crochet, and bake. Haven't had much time for any crafting since I had kids though, mostly because their room was my craft room, and they get into my supplies too much if I get them out. I can't wait to move to our new house where I will have a separate guest/craft room that I can keep the kids out of.

When DS was born I was able to do quite a bit of reading while I nursed him, and I hope I'll be able to do that again when this new baby comes. I do a bit of baking still, but my "helpers" slow down the process a lot!
  • I was doing animal rescue before life got super busy. I like to think that I'll be able to foster again once my kids are in school. I also used to write and my husband wishes I still did, but I'm all "what would I write about? Parenting? There are enough mommy blogs in the world".

I think the trick is to find something that makes you unique in the mommy blogging world.
A friend of mine has a blog that combines geeky tech with parenting.  She doesn't make a ton of money off of it, but she seems to get a lot of free stuff (including at one point the use of a Nissan Leaf free for a month).
  • The episode of Gilmore girls with krav maga just came on. Weird.

It's mentioned in Despicable Me 2

  • Hi, I'm new here:
my hobbies are pub trivia, cooking and baking, playing board games with friends, poker, local college hockey games, and reading

although, now that I'm pregnant there's no drinking on trivia nights, and my sense of smell and food aversions have led to a few weeks of me really not feeling like cooking.
and all I've been reading lately is What to Expect, and Bump boards.
