Christmas Traditions

I feel like we've discussed this before but I can't seem to find a post. Plus I'm in a super holiday mood and want to talk Christmas:) SO. What are some Christmas traditions that you carry on or plan to carry on?

My mom, my sisters and I used to make TONS Christmas cookies as a family and this year is the first year I will be doing so. I was planning on starting right now, but I'm waiting for DD to be up from her nap so she can sit at her high chair at the island and play in the flour and such.
Also we'd all decorate the tree together and string cranberries and popcorn to wrap around the tree. I plan on doing a variation of this, just not with cranberries and popcorn.

Re: Christmas Traditions

  • Since we have lived in our house My husband and I ( and the girls this year) bake cookies during the day and at night when the girls go to bed, the two us watch Elf and make egg nog martinis. We are doing that this Saturday. We also host a small Chtistmas party with lots of appetizers and drinks. I look forward to these two days more then actual Christmas!

  • I've really felt like I've lost all of our traditions since getting married. I was working the first few Christmases and last year was my first time having Christmas Day off. It was such a blur of trying to see all of both families and I didn't enjoy it at all.

Ideally we'd open one present Christmas Eve, wake up and open presents and stockings while our breakfast casserole cooks in the oven and then the kids would play with all of the gifts before we headed to one of our parent's houses for dinner. Instead we will be spending Christmas Eve with my family, Christmas eve with DH's huge extended family and Boxing Day with his immediate family. It's exhausting.

I plan to do a ton of baking and take DD on as many winter adventures as possible before Christmas though. :)

  • We're going to make Christmas cookies tomorrow.

Christmas eve we go out to breakfast with DH's family and visit with my mom's family that evening.

Christmas day we do our gifts that morning. Lunch at DH's grandmother's, and gifts at his parent's that evening.

We also see my family but those days and times change because of work schedules.
