Breastfeeding doll..?

Hello there BFing  mamas..

So recently I had this article on my news feed show up about a breastfeeding doll.. she makes 'suckling sounds' as you put the baby close to a BF top (in the chest area) and then you can burp your baby if she cries.. made as an informative doll for young girls.. Anyways there seem to be a lot of different responses and I was just wondering what a bunch of experienced BFing mamas thought about this doll...?

Now I am all for BF as I weaned my son shortly after he turned 2 but I am not sure how I would feel about buying this for a little girl (besides I feel as little girls like to play with their babies and they can pretend these bf motions or changing the diapers without the 'real' experience)..but I don't know since I am a mama to a boy and have only been around baby girls for short periods of time.

Re: Breastfeeding doll..?

  • I think it's great, what would be the issue with it?

My 2 and a half year old nieces have started lifting their shirts and putting their dolls to their chests to feed them instead of using bottles since they have seen me feeding LO. I couldn't be more proud.

  • I wouldn't buy the doll because DD already has a doll and has on occasion nursed her doll.  So I don't see the need to buy a doll for that specific purpose.  I don't have a problem with it though and if DD saw it at a friends house and wanted it, I would get it as a gift!

My daughter was 28 months when my DS was born.  I nursed him until he was 18 months....so DD was about 4 at that point.  She used to pretend to sit on the couch next to me and BF her dolls each time I BF her brother.  The doll came out right around this time (over 10 years ago) so it really isn't new.  I don't think it sells all that well, but I don't see anything wrong with it.  If my daughter had asked for it for Christmas, I would have gotten it.  But, you don't see commercials for it, so kids don't know it exists and therefore don't ask.  I think there are things that are more disturbing with dolls these days.  My DD1 who is now 16 and I were watching a commercial and I guess there is now a doll that poops charms and you can then put them on a bracelet.  To me, that is way more gross!  DD1 also agreed.
