Pregnant after a Loss

CPW: How many times have you called the on call doctor?

I'm home sick for the 2nd day in a row and early Tuesday am ended up calling the doc after throwing up for hours and feeling like I was dying. Turns out it is a stomach bug but I'm always curious if I'm hyper-paranoid and calling too often.

Re: CPW: How many times have you called the on call doctor?

  • I clicked once, but I wouldn't hesitate if I were on the fence. Just haven't needed to more often. Within reason, I would always err on the side of calling for any potentially serious problem.

  • I called once. I almost called last night because I hadn't felt movement in a little while, and was freaking out. By the time I convinced myself I should call and he was probably dead, he kicked. It wasn't that long but my PGAL brain was raging last night.

  • I usually talk myself out of using the on-calls service, but did use it once in 1T during a scary episode on a Friday night.  I couldn't help myself.

  • I haven't needed to yet, but with DD I called when I felt like death at 30 weeks. I probably shouldn't if waiting as long as I did. I'm just very stubborn. I won't be nearly as hesitant with this pregnancy to ask my questions after hours if I feel something is wrong.

  • I said 1x but I definitely called more when I was pregnant with my daughter. I'm definitely in the "it never hurts to call" boat. I figure that's what they are there for!
  • I've only called once with this pregnancy.  I called a few times with DS.  That's what they're there for :)
  • I haven't had to call the on call yet this pregnancy, but I did after my miscarriage once.

Personally, I take call for the practice I work for and am happy to take legit questions, concerns and problems. I often will go in to see a patient with an emergency after hours. However, it is annoying when something has been going on all day and the person waits until after hours to call.  It is much easier for me to handle your concern when I am in the office with your chart in front of me.

  • I clicked 0-1 but wanted to clarify that it's only because I've been extremely lucky with this pregnancy and how good I've felt.  If I felt anything was off, I would definitely call.  Use it as much as you need to.

  • I haven't called at all, but I haven't even known about the pregnancy for 2 full weeks yet. That said, I feel like I've called my RE's office pretty much every other day since then.

  • Thanks for playing guys :) I've called twice this pregnancy, once being the other night. I don't hesitate to call at all during normal business hours but after hours is always my concern. I typically give myself the dead line for symptoms to go away before calling too, which is helpful. Thankfully my doctors are amazing and get me in right away.
