Progesterone shots, anyone?

Happy Friday! Tried searching for progesterone shot discussions, but only found some from 2012. Anyone else here currently taking them? I just got mine this morning, thanks to the husband. Anyhow, anyone have experience taking the full course 17-36 weeks? Did you notice any side effects and do you feel it helped with diverting premature labor? I only know one other momma who has taken these shots, luckily with positive outcomes. Thanks in advance!

Re: Progesterone shots, anyone?

  • @babys2014‌ Yeah, they administer for those TTC as well as for those who experienced premature labor. Yours was daily, I think? Mine is once a week from 17 till around 36 weeks.

  • @WAMOM‌ Weird question, but have you ever leaked a bit out of the injection site? My husband kinda freaked out this morning because I was oozing some oil. Congrats on the twins and best of luck!!!
  • I did the daily progesterone oil shots for my IVF until the end of 1st Tri. I'm sorry you are having to do them.

Regarding leaking, sometimes mine would leak out a little after it was injected.

  • @WAMOM‌ Pretty sure site is correct (upper, outer quadrant butt area). This was just the first time I had any leakage - my 8th or 9th shot, lost count already.
  • @WAMOM I lie down when getting the shot, that really helps. Just called Dr office, nurse said it's ok but if it occurs again to call. I probably didn't pull area tight enough. Thanks for the help!
  • Yes, I started the progesterone shots at 16w. 28w tomorrow and baby is still in! My oldest was born at 33w.

  • I started them at 17 weeks and will get them until 36 weeks. A home nurse comes weekly to give it to me. A far as side effects go, I've only had a little soreness the day of the shot. I had my twins at 27 weeks after I had PPROM at 26 1/2 weeks. I'm getting closer to that time in my pregnancy now and it's a little nerve wracking. I'm praying the shots help keep this baby in until March.

  • Yes! Me too.. started with the cream! Yuck now on shots... 24 wks with twins too..had a scare this weekend was in hospital...home now..have cerglage too...praying my cervix will hold... had some contractions. Mine shots are weekly. ..the only thing I've noticed is itchy site and sore...and my urine may smell funny.
  • @MrsLaurenandDan‌ My first cane at 33 weeks too! I'm hoping these shots keep us out of the NICU!
  • @Mama0216‌ Thanks for the info! It's really comforting to hear success stories. Glad your pregnancy is going well.
  • Thanks everyone! It's really comforting to hear your success stories and know that this shot helps. Hope we all keep these little kidlets in until they're ready! I told hubby we need to celebrate when I make it to 38 weeks!
  • I started them at 16 weeks and am now 27. I'm in the hospital now, but looking good and should be released tomorrow. My contractions are significantly better than with my first two pregnancies. With them, I was on bedrest and had been hospitaliZed several times by now. I was getting a progesterone in oil mix from a compounding pharmacy, but I developed an allergy to that. Now I'm on Makena but starting to develop an allergic with it also. Good times. And yes, the injection sites leak and stain my clothes and itch too. But all completely worth it!!!
  • @thirdtimes‌ Oh man! So sorry you have to go through all that. Glad to know it's still working for you, despite the allergies.
