Flu Shots

Who is getting a Flu shot? I have never ever got one before and I can't even remember ever having the Flu. Just was hoping to get some advice and a general consensus on it. I am not so much against it, I just am not sure how necessary it is. Thoughts?

Re: Flu Shots

  • Get the flu shot. Flu is bad news if you are pregnant. You will pass on the immunity to your baby, protecting them.
    All of this.

  • Get the flu shot.  Make sure they know you are pregnant when you get the shot.  Our office gives Thimerosal free vaccines to pregnant women.

  • I don't get it either, but I am because of the pregnancy.
  • I got it. It's so easy and will protect you and the baby.
  • Absolutely get it, my OB will be giving it to me at my first visit.

  • My husband and I got it in our last family doctor visit and I did not know I was already pregnant. Doctor knew We were TTC and she told me it was a must for pregnant women or women TTC. I don't think there is an option here, better to get the flu shot.
  • It's mandatory at my job so I always get it. But even if it wasn't I am very pro flu shot.

Only problem is the cdc is saying the virus has mutated so much this year that the shot won't be effective against about 50% of cases due to the strains not being what they thought they would be. But that still means it's effective against the other 50%, so still worth it in my opinion.
  • My OB doesn't administer the shot, but I will call my PCP and ask her about getting it. I am just nervous I will have a bad reaction to it, but it seems as though it is the way to go based on all of your responses. Thank you!
  • Got mine at a CVS MinuteClinic because I didn't have the time to get to my PCP and I was very concerned that I'd catch something on public transportation. It was pretty simple and quick (though I was first in line when I went; "quick" may be relative). And, like they advertise, it really did cost me nothing thanks to my insurance.

  • Yes get the flu shot. I get one every year and my ob gave it to me at my appointment last wee.
  • I got one from my OB today. She highly recommended it to protect both me and the baby.
  • I don't get the flu shot - my midwife said it was not required so I'm good with her.
  • I've never got the flu shot. My Dr. asks if I want it and I just say "No thanks."

    Everyone's different though.

  • I work in healthcare and have seen far too many pregnant women and children die from the flu. I would not mess around with the flu. And your midwife may be "all-natural" but she won't be the one treating you when you are sick from the flu! :) I would get the flu shot!
  • I got it a couple weeks ago.

It's not required, I mean nothing is required in pregnancy.  It is very highly recommended that pregnant women get it.

  • I get it every year.  Being pregnant with the flu is hell.  Also taking care of a kid while you have the flu is hell, I would highly recommend all pregnant women get it along with all parents caring for kids.
