Is it ok to put up my 35lb son?

I feel like my son is heavy and when I pick him up my back hurts n puts a strain on my belly? Is this ok? Normal? I'm 17 weeks

Re: Is it ok to put up my 35lb son?

  • Ask your doctor. I have been on a 25 pound weight restriction per my doctor at my 8 week visit.

  • My dr said lifting my boys was fine- oldest is about that weight- 35lbs or so. I only do it when I need to but as soon as it becomes difficult or uncomfortable I will stop.

  • My midwife said I can do anything I'm used to doing including picking up DS who is 37lbs. The only time it gets to be hard is getting him in and out of our SUV which is high and I'm a shorty. You should ask your doc though, I don't think straining every day multiple times a day is good. Have you tried yoga? I had a back injury years ago and it helps me more than anything.

  • I have been on a 25 pound restriction since 6-7 weeks. My DS3 is at 27 pounds I only lift him for quick things; getting in to the car, in to the shopping cart, in to the crib but I don't carry him any more.

  • I pick up my 33 pounder everyday. But I agree with PP..if you are feeling strain and discomfort with anything you do, you shouldnt be doing it.
  • As pp said, Ask your doc.
She said my 24 lb son is ok, but my 30 lb daughter is not. I'm sure that will change as I move through pregnancy.

  • My son is 45 lbs... He's 4. I only lift him occasionally (putting into a cart, etc). I don't feel strained though...Definitely talk to doctor.
  • I pick up my 35lb DD, but only to get her in and out of the car, in and out of a cart. I don't pick her up as much as I used to.

  • My princess is 25 pounds and I do carry her for things like crossing the street or if she needs a snuggle, but I try not to bc it is hard for me to do and my doctor told me nothing over 15 pounds. (When she told me this, hormonal mama bear yelled back "YOU CAN'T TELL ME NOT TO HOLD AND LOVE MY BABY!". hahahahaha. excellent decision making).
  • I have a question and this thread was the closest I could find in relevance... I teach horsemenship and my students are from age 3-13. (17 weeks prego.) Yesterday I lifted a first grade boy and saddled and unsaddled the horses. No noticeable difference from any other day until I sat down for awhile in the evening. I couldn't get up. Sever pain in my mid to upper back just right of my spine. Laying down in bed was worse. I called my dr and moved next weeks apt up to tomorrow but I want to ask if anyone thinks this is pregancy related? Also... I was going to have my mid prego sonogram next week and find out the gender of the baby. Is my early apt tomorrow too soon to still do this? I don't want to wait another month before I know. Sorry to interrupt the 301 lb baby funnies :)
