Failed 1st Glucose Test

Results are in, I failed the first 1 hr. test with level of 151.  Is that awful?  Obviously it isn't where the docs would like it.  Any advice/encouragement would be great. I'm nervous. The 3 hr test is set for Friday AM.  I'm definitely tying to spin some positive from it and use it to change eating habits and activity level. It's never too late for improvement, right?!

Re: Failed 1st Glucose Test

  • I don't think it's awful, but a 3 hour test is needed. From what I was told by my OB, anything over 140 they consider a fail and have you do the 3 hour. Hang in there, you may pass the 3 hour with flying colors. Good luck!

  • I failed my 1 hr test as well. I haven't herd from my doctor about my 2 hour test so I assume it is good this time. Don't stress.
  • It's just a screening, so try not to worry. There are always false positive screening tests, and you'll know for sure soon. Some people have results in the 200's and don't even have to do a 3-hr, they are just dx'd with GD. You're in a gray zone, so more definitive testing is required. Good luck!
  • I failed my 1hr with DD at 157. Took the 3hr and passed with flying colors. This time around I failed- again at 160, and also have my glucose scheduled for friday AM. In the meantime, just try to eat a little better (I would probably stay away from the holiday cookies), and fast for the 12 hours you need to.

  • If it makes you feel better, I failed my 1 hour at 155 and then passed my 3 hour without a problem. Good luck!

  • @071115 and @cafecreme - Best of luck to both of you for good results!

Thank you to everyone for the encouraging words!  I had, hopefully, the worst of my freak out moment and now trying to stay positive that I'm going to kick test # 2's butt on Friday!!! :)
  • Yup I failed then passed the three hour with my son. I think I was right around 160. I have my first test this time on Monday we'll see. Good luck to everyone on their second tests!
  • @jpavenski Good luck to you too!!!
  • Add me to the list of failing the 1 hour (156) but passing the 3 hour no problem. The false positive rate is high, like others said just be sure to fast this time...helps to know you did all you could to give an accurate reading. Good luck!!

  • I have my 1 hr glucose test tomorrow. Hoping all goes well and wishing you good luck on your 3 hr test

  • I just got my 2 hr results back... All good.
  • I just got the call that I failed my test too!  Dang dang dang!  I'm already taking metformin, so I thought I would pass for sure.  Hopefully we all get good news from the 3 hour!

  • I also failed my 1-hour, but I just passed my 3-hour. The biggest pain was finding a time for my husband to stay home so I could go. Wishing you well no matter how your test goes.

  • I failed the 1 hour with my DD and passed the 3 hour. Of course, I didn't fast for the 1 hour and I ate a huge slice of cake the night before, so that was probably my fault. I wouldn't worry too much about it, false positives are common with the 1 hour.

  • ugh. I am pretty sure I failed mine today, too. I got totally JACKED UP on sugar. I was jittery and super high. I normally don't eat a lot of sugar, and having this on an empty stomach first thing made me feel ill. I got an instant headache, too. I really hope this is not an indication of how I will do, but the whole time I was thinking this doesn't bode well…..

  • My doctors office doesn't even do the one hour test anymore. And seeing how many ladies have failed it then passed the three hour I'm not as annoyed that I had to take the three hr to begin with.

  • I also failed my 1 hour with a 152. I'm going in to do my 3 hour on Friday.

    GL to everyone!
  • I failed my one hour and passed my 3 hourr.

I literally just took my second 3 hour test today.....they made me do a second 3 hour test! It was by far the worst diet/test experience ever. Hate the fact they made me redo it.

  • I too failed my 1 hr with a 175. I have my 3 hr test this Friday AM. I'll be glad when it's over...
  • I failed my 1 hour today with a 140. My midwife says she personally would have passed me but the practice's policy is only pass under 130. So I take the 3 hour this Saturday- AND it starts at 7am. 7am!!!! On a Saturday?! Boo. It seems like everyone that I've talked to fails... Does anyone pass? I feel like we should have a poll for this.
  • Failed 1 hr today with a 173. I've been worried about this the entire pregnancy as diabetes runs in my family and I am of Asain descent. Going back in tomorrow AM for 3 hr. Not feeling very hopfull but know it will be manageable and I'll do everything I need to to make sure my baby boy stays healthy!

Mine too, if it makes anyone feel better. The one hour sounds pretty unreliable if there are this many false positives.
