Trouble TTC

Intro to 3T

Hey ladies!

Some of you might recognize me from TTGP, I've been in an out on that board while TTC. We started trying in January of this year, and during the summer I noticed that my LP was very short (9-10 days with spotting even earlier.) I practically had to beat my way in to my OB's office just to get her to run 7DPO bloodwork, which eventually showed that my progesterone was abysmal. Of course my OB offered me Clomid with no monitoring, and because I had read some of the horror stories on TTGP and 3T, I peaced out of there quick with a "bye felicia."

So I got into an RE, who we really love. He had his suspicions, which he confirmed with additional CD3 bloodwork and an HSG. I never asked if it has an official name, but apparently I have more eggs than average which is causing a very weak ovulation. My RE equated it to when there are 100 people in line at the DMV and only 1 person at the counter, ha. "By the time it's your turn, you're tired and grumpy." He put me on 5mg of Femara, we did a trigger shot and an IUI because of my husband's low motility.

CD 1 started yesterday so apparently this cycle didn't work. I didn't really expect it to, but I got mindfucked this round because I felt downright awful with nausea every day during the TWW. Baseline ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow, and then we do it all over again. I will say it's nice to have a 28 day cycle!

Excited to get to know you ladies,
Virginia

  • Welcome Virginia, I'm sorry you find yourself here, however, hoping that your stay is a short one. I was initially first diagnosed with LPD and low ovulation/progesterone so I know how it feels with the short LP. On my 2nd round of Clomid I was able to get a normal LP. Good Luck.

  • Welcome and I am sorry for the BFN on your first IUI :(

Did your doctor say you had PCO or PCOS? A high number of follicles on the ovaries and the way he described it would seem to point to it, but I was just surprised he didn't come out and say that in his explanation to you. Good luck on IUI #2.
So I'm not super knowledgeable on the specifics of PCOS, but I did ask him if I had it, especially when my first baseline u/s last month showed 15 (immature) follicles on one side and 18 on the other side. He said I'm not PCOS, but the way he said it made it sound as if I'm in the grey area between PCOS and normal. I think he called it "PCOS-appearing" because I have too many eggs but not as many as is typical for PCOS? I didn't have any cysts in my ultrasounds yet, and fingers crossed that I don't have any on my first u/s of cycle 2 tomorrow. Like I said, I don't know a lot of about PCOS so hopefully he's not bullshitting me.

  • You can have PCO without having PCOS. To meet the definition of PCOS, you have to meet two or more criteria. Women don't necessarily have to have PCO to have PCOS nor does every woman with PCO have PCOS. I have PCO, and don't worry - it confused the shit out of me at first, too.

Yep, this exactly. Your other bloodwork can be used to rule out PCOS if you just have PCO without the syndrome. Usually for a PCOS diagnosis they look for a few of these things (although you don't need all to be diagnosed) high androgen levels (testosterone or DHEA-S) and the characteristics of them such as thinning hair, coarse facial hair growth, or acne; high AMH; high LH to FSH ratio (about 2:1): or insulin resistance as diagnosed with a 2 hour glucose test. It may be that your day three blood work came out normal and if you do not show other physical signs of the syndrome so your RE isn't concerned.
Oh man, ladies, I had no idea about all of this. Way to drop the knowledge - as a self-confessed info whore, I want to know all the things!

I remember that my CD3 bloodwork had elevated AMH at 5.1ng/mL but that's all that he told me about as being not normal. I am very interested in the fact that you (@iputketchuponketchup) said you can be PCO without being PCOS, and all the signs of PCO/PCOS that you mentioned, @rainbowbridge14. Got to get through this weekend - throwing a baby shower, worst possible timing, I'll drink all the wine on Saturday! - and then I'm going to spend some quality time with Google.

Thanks for everything ladies, you all are so welcoming and I really appreciate all your thoughtful and supportive answers.

  • @rainbowbridge14‌ oh you're too sweet to think of me. Thankfully it's a friend who also had TTTC -- well, I'm not glad she had trouble of course, and I'm absolutely THRILLED for her because I know they tried for over a year before going medicated, but I guess I'm trying to say, I'm glad it's her shower that I'm hosting rather than an acquaintance who got KU on the first drunken night of boning...

Side note: this girl took unmonitored Clomid because she didn't know any better and it worked her first cycle. I said many Hail Marys and then set her shit straight for whenever she wants to embark on Kid #2... Sweet mother of Jesus. So lucky.

And I will be careful with the Google. I will also look over the 3T resources, I haven't looked at them since before this past cycle. I bet there's some helpful info there.
