TTC After a Loss

Cleared to do the deed!: HSG Test question!

its been 3 weeks since I had my EP surgery. Today I went to my follow up appointment and was cleared to start having sex again! My OB doctor said we could start TTC right now as well.

We are going to wait though on TTC until after my first period and we have the HSG test completed.

Has anyone had the HsG test done? How much pain where you in during the test? I have heard it's pretty painful. My doc suggested taking tyenol before

I feel grateful today that we are moving in the right direction. I took a break from here for a week to get my mind in a good place. Going through a EP was emotionally and physically draining. It was my first week back to work and just needed some reflection time! I am glad to be back!!

Re: Cleared to do the deed!: HSG Test question!

  • (((Hugs))) my EP was in July so I understand the drained part. Anywhoo the HSG was honestly not that bad. I took 800 motrin beforehand. The whole finding the cervix getting situated was awkward and uncomfortable. The injection of the dye caused some cramping but none of it was unbearable. After the exam I was back to normal. Good Luck!

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • I just had mine yesterday.  I felt pretty crampy when they put in the dye - it was mostly pressure, but it was literally over in about 30 seconds and then it dissipated.  I was a little crampy throughout the day after it was over, but nothing bad at all.  Make sure you take the antibiotics they tell you to.  I forgot to get mine ahead of time, it was fine but i had to run straight to the pharmacy to take them in one big dose since i forgot.

I totally forget about the antibiotics. I had doxycycline and took it with my am coffee and nothing else. Big mistake, never again.

  • Welcome back. I am glad things seem to be headed in the right direction. I have no experience with the HSG test. But good luck with it all. I'm glad it seems like you have been taking care of yourself.

  • Yay for being cleared to do the dirty!  ;)

As for the HSG... ABSOLUTELY take some BIG tylenol. I was given an 800 mg Ibuprofen to take before and it helped. I'm not sure "pain" is the right word. The dye makes your cramps, but the rest was extremely uncomfortable - to the point that I got hot and felt dizzy but it didn't hurt. If that makes any sense!
  • Minor discomfort (didn't take Tylenol before) and wasn't given any antibiotics.  Took a few Tylenol afterwards and had no issues.  Good luck!

  • Yay for burning the bench!  My HSG was uncomfortable but not terrible.  I drove myself there.  I agree, putting in the catheter (and then when they inflate it with air) was the worse part.  The injecting of dye is not that bad.  Unfortunately they let a little air out of the catheter to try to manipulate it, and it popped out, so they had to replace it again.  I had a little spotting afterwards but not bad.  I did wear a pad that day.  I went back to work afterwards and was ok.

I'm glad that you are cleared to try again!   I had an HSG and it sucked but it's because the doctor doing it wasn't very good at it.   If I could do it over again, I'd have the RE do it because they do them all the time.  It was very uncomfortable and my doctor struggled to get to my uterus because of how it's tilted.   If he had gotten there initially it wouldn't have been too bad.   Take ibprofin ahead of time and just watch for the cramping when the dye is inserted.
  • Hugs!  My HSG was done while I was under for my laproscopy so I didn't feel much.. I'm no help there, but I just wanted to say Have all the sex :-)
