Good morning!!

Whether you're working today or stretching the last few days of maternity leave, you are AWESOME!

How old is you LO? Boy or Girl?  Tell us a little bit about them.

How is it going back at work?

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

Have a great week!

  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl?  Tell us a little bit about them.
Lil Bub is going to be 3 months old on Saturday!  He is a really happy, easygoing baby.  He does best when I just "go about my business" and bring him around town with me to do errands and chores around the house.

How is it going back at work?
I go back on Friday...I work at a school so I only have to work 6 days until break.  Everyone is looking forward to seeing me so that makes it a little easier to go back.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
If I could work part time, I feel like I would have a good balance.  I think I will like getting out and working, but 40 hours a week is a lot of time.  If I could just do 20 or so I could make some money and have my own life a little, but not feel like I'm missing out on LO.

I hope this was an OK check in...I'll post every Wednesday morning with more probative questions. :)

  • Yay! Thanks for doing this :)

How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them. He's 12 weeks today! His name is Nolan and he's my first baby. He's a very happy baby most of the time, though he's sometimes Mr. Drama because he can go from zero to sixty when he's hungry or tired or whatever. I swear, he's a mini-me to my DH because he has a lot of his features and personality traits.

How is it going back at work? It's going. First day back was Monday and I'm exhausted. Since I don't get to sleep in anymore, I need to be better about going to bed earlier than midnight. It doesn't help that LO's sleep has regressed and DH is getting frustrated (he's Mr. Mom right now until mid January so he's seeing how hard it was for me at first!). But slowly getting back in the groove. I'm enjoying the adult interaction but miss spending time with my boy.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier? If possible financially, I would definitely work part-time. Or even finding or being able to telecommute to work some or partial days would be awesome. Having family watch your LO is also a blessing and if possible, really helps. DH sends pictures and we FaceTime during my lunches so I can see LO.

  • Fun idea :)

How old is your LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them. Ryan is my second child (sister Kate is an S12er). He'll be 3 months old on Friday. He's totally laid back and just loves to be around people, it really doesn't matter who it is, although he saves his biggest smiles for me! He's holding his head up really well and rolling from tummy to back like a champ.

How is it going back at work? It's going great. I've got a pretty sweet set up. We have a babysitter that only watches my two children and we've known her since Kate was an infant. I love me job and the people I work for, so it's been a really easy transition for me this time around...although bittersweet.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom to a young baby easier? SLEEP!! For me, I'm able to work from home 2 days a week. I still send my kids to the babysitter (since it's impossible to get anything done with them around). I take breaks while I"m working and do laundry/grocery shop/meal prep/workout so that my weekends and evenings are free to just hang out. I'm really lucky in that aspect.

How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them. My DS is 3 months old. He is our first and our rainbow baby after having 2 miscarriages. He is such a great baby. He wakes up often during the night though to eat. Other than that he's pretty easy to please.

How is it going back at work?
So far it's been ok. I've missed my work peeps so it was nice getting back around them. DS and I are both still getting used to mommy not being home all the time.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
Being able to sleep! And if I were able to work part time. I wish the U.S. would make it possible for moms to be off longer than just 12 weeks. So many other countries give way longer. Having that extended time would be awesome.

Eliza is 12 weeks. She's a fiesty little thing. Mornings she's all smiles and coo'ing. In the evenings she just wants to sleep and eat. She loves music and lights.

How is it going back at work? I just started back Monday. It's ok. I miss her more each day but I have a 3 day weekend this weekend to look forward to. I'm so busy catching up, the days are going by so fast.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

Besides not working, nothing really. I am blessed to have retired parents who watch her for us. I get a ton of pictures and phone calls. I know she's well taken care of. They come to my house which is even easier.

Vera is 11 weeks old and has a lot of personality. She starts our her days all smiles and happy talking and it kind of goes to crazyland throughout the afternoon and then back to happy in the evenings. She is awesome at holding up her head and is constantly trying to roll over.

How is it going back at work?

I've been working from home for about a month now and it's tough. I have to either work while she is sleeping or make sure she is entertained while I work which is kind of distracting. I'll be going back to work for real on January 5th and am halfway looking forward to it and halfway not.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

If she would figure her schedule out that would definitely make things easier. I'd love to work part time like someone else mentioned. Have some adult time out of the house and still get to spend a lot of time with V. I am sad that I'm going to miss out on things with her and have loved watching her develop so much in the past months.
  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them.
My little girl will be 11 weeks old on Saturday! Her name is Parker. She is super smiley and loves her play time. She likes to stay up late and sleep late which has made returning to work a little tiring, but she's a great nighttime sleeper!

How is it going back at work?
It's going. I have a great job, boss and coworkers so that has definitely made it easier to return to work. I also have a flexible schedule so that makes it very convenient.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
A longer maternity leave and working part time. I think if I could have had 6 months to a year off like a lot of other countries do it would make things way easier. Also working 25-30 hours a week rather than 40 would make me feel like I was working but still got quality time with LO.
  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl?  Tell us a little bit about them.
Claire is 3.5 months old (she was a month early), and has quite the personality.  She is a VERY serious eater, and does not like to be played with while nursing, it's quite funny!

How is it going back at work?
I went back Nov. 1, and it has been really hard for me.  She is my first and I miss her so much.  Luckily, she is with my mom during the day, who sends me pictures (that really helps).  Pumping flat-out sucks balls and I can't wait to be done with it.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
I wish I could work from home, but she just requires too much attention for me to do that.  Part time work would also be great, but it is impossible with my profession.  As of now I'm contemplating working until maybe #2 is born (if I'm lucky to get pregnant again).

  • Not sensitive. I just think it's shitty for the comment of "you are awesome" to apply to working moms. And yes I'm fucking awesome I'm battling PPD and managing to take care of two kids and my house. Life is fucking hard right now.

@Stasi‌ not hating like I said I think it's shitty, to me it read you're not a "working" mom so you're not awesome. I get that ending maternity leaves sucks ass. I'm just saying that's how it reads, maybe I work from home? You don't know, if I did I would be called a WAHM and this thread really wouldn't even apply to me. Maybe some questions should be added to accommodate EVERY working mom.
  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them.
    - 12 wk old girl, she loves looking at the faces on her toys and always smiles and talks to them. She just started giggling! Of course this was during my first day back at work when my mom was watching her...at least she got it on video!

How is it going back at work?
    - as above, it sucks knowing I'll be missing a lot. But it is nice to be back with my coworkers and working with old people again, I missed them! Pumping every 3 hours sucks but it's only been taking 15 min start to finish.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
    - as pp said longer maternity leave would make a huge difference in my fatigue level, she's getting better at sleeping but only in 4-5 hour stretches so far.
  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them.
Z is 10 weeks right now. He's pretty easygoing and has mostly been a good sleeper for the last couple weeks.

How is it going back at work?
I go back the Monday before Christmas. I'm a bit concerned - the 2 people handling the office day to day have 2 years and 1 month of experience. My boss (the 2 years one) said "the wheels have come off" without me there.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
If my daycare provider wasn't closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 4! Minor panic here.

You are awesome? What kind of bullshit is this? So since I'm a stay at home mom I'm not awesome? Is this not a fucking job, I'm pretty sure it is. No I don't make any money doing it but I do shit all fucking day. I don't like this.

hey amber. normally i have a sensitive bullshit meter or offensive comment meter but this one didn't trip it at all. i really do agree that you're taking this the wrong way. no one here is saying working moms > SAHMs or vice versa.

i do hope things get better for you.

and @stasi although i agree that starting a similar thread for SAHMs is a good idea, just some free advice - you really need to watch the key word language that is going to tick people off on this board, such as "a place for support" and "don't open the thread if you don't like it" kind of things. it's the internet, not a support group, and people can do what they want. including hating. can people be supportive? of course. but it's not a support group.

@anewadventure I'll concede that anyone can come in and comment, they can even comment negatively. It is the Internet and not a private group. I will argue, however, that a weekly check-in, set up for whatever reason can be a place where people go to get support. Is it a support group? No, of course not. But a weekly thread most certainly be a place of support. I think we're all generally on the same page with this though.

@ashaw512 I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with PPD. Hope things get easier for you soon.

Peanut will be 12 weeks old tomorrow.  He is easy-going, loves to smile, and hardly ever cries.  He's a great cuddler and loves to go.  He smiles so big when we put him in his car seat...it's really sweet.  He's also learning to smile for the camera.  :)

How is it going back at work?

I'm the boss, so it was a little difficult coming back in to find out what happened in the 8 weeks I was off.  I've been back 4 weeks, and am totally back into the swing of things.  The difference is I now leave (most nights) at 4:00 instead of waiting until I accomplish everything I had hoped to get done that day.  My DH works from home and watched Peanut during the day -- so that aspect has been great!

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

For me, I would love to have more help from my DH in the evenings.  I understand that he's had him for the 9 hours I was away, but I may go days without even checking facebook, let alone going to get a mani/pedi, or have some girl time.  I feel that I am working 24/7.  I love the weekends when my DH and I share the responsibilities more evenly.  :)

    Have a great week!

Little boy, Niko and he is 10 weeks. He is a pretty well behaved baby, as long as he isn't tired or hungry of course ;) he loves watching our silly faces and has been smiling more very day!

How is it going back at work?

I go back the Monday before Christmas and I am just trying to get all the little baby cuddles in before then. Not looking forward to it at all.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

I wish we could afford for me to work part time, but I am the main bread winner and I have a management position, so it doesn't look like that will happen any time soon. Luckily DH and I have pretty opposite schedules, so he will be home most of the day with LO.

  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them.

My sweet little boy Lucas is 10 weeks today. He loves kissy noises and when me or DH laughs. He is a happy camper unless he's hungry and even though I don't have a lot to compare it too he is the best baby snuggler a FTM could ask for

How is it going back at work?

Today was my first day! Of course baby survived just fine but it was hard to coax a smile outta him after not seeing me all day. I was in a haze not knowing how to pick out an outfit anymore or talk to adults so hopefully that will get better with time haha

What is one thing that would make
working as the mom of a young baby easier?
Ever since I've had lucas it's intrigued me to have my own business so I could have more autonomy over my workplace. I also thought it was cool that some moms said they could bring their babies to work I wish that was more popular!

  • My LO is a sweet girl we call Ro.. or Boogie.. or Pee Factory.. People tell me I have an easy baby, but I think they say that because they don't stay the night with us. Sleeping in our crib has been an uphill battle, and so has sleeping through the night. One week we do amazing, the next we go back to every 2 hours. Her favorites right now are her blue effalump (an elephant that sings to her), her lady bug on her play mat, and her babysitting cat who sleeps on the rocker in her nursery while she is there, and just on the nearest piece of furniture when she's out with us. She's almost 12 weeks old now.

Going back to work is awful and terrible but also nice somehow... I work with adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.. so I change diapers at home, and then do it at work too. Poop gets old. Also since I have been on leave coming back means some of my rougher clients have been trying to "put me in my place" since I've returned.  Of course they don't scare me, I've been working with the same group of women for over a year now.. but that doesn't make it any easier when you have a 36 year old screaming in your face because she is mad that you won't drive her to the gas station to buy cigarettes.. or is angry that you reported her for a house rules violation.  On the other hand though, while I was out one of my residents got very very ill, and almost died.. so it is WONDERFUL to see her back at home and starting to thrive again. I'm not suppose to have favorites, but if I did, she was one of them and it killed me that she wasn't doing well.

The one thing that would make my life easier, would probably have to be a little more sleep, and a little less working. I don't mind my schedule so much, but the 6am shifts get kind of killer with a little one who won't STTN very frequently(or even get very close).

  • How old is your LO?
15 weeks today! Holy smokes! He is a happy baby and smiles at everyone. He is still a tiny little thing but to me he has grown so much since he was born at five pounds. He loves his take along tunes and daddy's silly faces.

    How is it going?
I'm a teacher and the toughest part has been getting my class back up to my expectations. It's been good for me to be back, to have a routine. It keeps me busy enough that I can't focus on not being with him. Helps that my mother is taking care of him.

    What would help?
Baby STTN would. He gives us a long stretch but it was tough to wake up this morning. DH has been wonderful at helping to get him ready.

Oh and ashaw12, don't think OP was trying to be offensive at all. Just trying to pump us up. I think any mom, working outside the home or in the home has a tough job and we don't need to make it any harder on each other!

G is 14 weeks today. He is a sweet smiley baby...but also incredibly impatient. The sass is strong with this one.

It's not all bad. I really dislike my job, but we have great flexibility, and it's nice to have regular adult interaction.

I'm actually interviewing for a new job today.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

    On site daycare.

DD hit 3 months yesterday! She's a pretty easy going baby. She loves to watch the dogs playing and just started interacting with toys a few weeks ago which has been fun. Bath time definitely gets the biggest smiles and giggles

How is it going back at work? I went back to work after being on leave for only 6 weeks, so it's super routine by now. Do I miss her? Of course, but I really haven't struggled with being away from her. Work is far easier than taking care of A all day

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier? It would be nice if I could do a compressed work week. Having a day that could be half me time and half mommy daughter time would be nice.

My little man was 11 weeks old yesterday. He loves sitting & standing (with our assistance of course) & looking around. He has discovered that he can put his hands in his mouth recently and slobbers all over. He's starting to smile more often now and I can not get enough of it. He's generally pretty mellow but when he's tired he will let you know!

How is it going back at work?

Work sucks. Not really but I hate being away from him. I am only working 3 days a week so I guess I can't complain to much but I would rather be a SAHM. I hate pumping though. I work in an automotive shop and I'm the only girl and there is ZERO privacy. Luckily the boys all understand and give me the space I need for that. My days are long usually 10+ hours so that is the hardest. Our sleep is still all all over the place from sleeping through the night to up every hour so I can be pretty exhausted some days.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?

For me it would be shorter work days and being able to have a set sleep schedule.

  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them. Levi is 12 weeks and is super laid back. He is very talkative and coos and babbles constantly.

How is it going back at work? It's been a challenging week. For some reason I combined starting work with starting a new schedule. I like my job, and I love the people I work with, so going back to work would be great if I didn't miss my little one so much during the day.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier? A more consistent sleep schedule.

I'm leaning on our parents, but we may have a couple days where I'll take him to the office. Has anyone done that, as a one-off or regular thing? Any advice for making it work? I'm in the building management office so it's mostly web based with some calls and walk ins, though these weeks should be fairly quiet due to the holidays.

  • How old is your LO? Boy or girl?
My little girl is 11 weeks and finally started sleeping in her crib a couple days after I returned to work a week and a half ago!

How is it going back to work?
I would prefer to be a STM but I returned to my ER nursing job and am back in the swing of things you kind of get lost in the day and it usually flies by... Except my first day back only two of my patients were older than six... Thought it was a weird coincidence...

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young child a bit easier?
I think working day shift would make things a little easier than getting home at midnight. I work three days a week so that's the perk!
  • LO turned 3 months on Tuesday. His name is Finn and he's usually such a happy baby, full of smiles in the mornings!

Went back to work 12/3. It's been tough because of long hours. It's an "8-5" job most days - I work as a physician assistant and have outpatient clinic 3 days a week and work in the operating room the other 2 days. I've been unlucky in that we've had a few long, difficult cases since I've been back so operating days have been late and then on clinic days once I finish around 5 I have to go round on any patients in the hospital. Luckily, my husband is the one to pick up LO from daycare! He's been awesome since I've gone back and has had dinner ready almost every night! Lol :)

I agree with a lot of the PP in that I think a part time position would make it easier to be a working mom. With long hours I feel like I'm missing out on so much and I just can't seem to get enough snuggles!! I wouldn't mind 12 hour days if I could be done for the week after three of them! Thank goodness I love my coworkers and boss.
  • Age? LO(boy) is 11weeks his brother 4.5

How's it going? I go back jan 12th but they've been calling me for help my whole leave since no one but me does my job. I log in late at night and stop by periodically. ( who doesn't love working for free) . My boss texts me every day for help which I find mildly amusing.

Things that would help? This is my 2nd and I think it will be easier than my 1st but we'll see. I know Floristor will be my friend since even if not consciously upset I get mad stomach cramping when I'm away from baby too much. I also hope work is patient with my mood swings since I still have mild PPD and get really sad/bitchy when I haven't held LO in a while.

  • LO is almost 14 wks

I had to go back to work a couple wks out from delivery but I've had the whole month of Dec off.

Working wasn't too bad when I was there but pumping is exhausting. I feel like pack horse everyday going to work.

Luckily when I start back in jan I'll have Fridays off!
  • They do regularly @withagrainofsalt‌. They even decided to cut my PTO last minute during my leave. They do stuff all tge time that's legal no nos but if no one calls them on it? They've been to court several times for discrimination and always win. Huge parent company with deep pockets for lawyers. It is not a woman friendly company but I love my job and my direct coworkers. I only planned to stay 5years but now it's been 10 and I have two kids and it's 2miles from my house with good health insurance.

  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl?  Tell us a little bit about them.
Baby boy is 14w old today.  He loves bathtime, making dinosaur noises, and not letting mama get any sleep.

We called DD1 Petrie (from Land Before Time) for a while because she sounded like a pterodactyl.

  • How old is you LO? Boy or Girl? Tell us a little bit about them.
Teagan is almost 15 weeks. She's my second little girl (DD1 will be 2 in February). She is much more laid back than her sister and rarely cries. She loves sucking and chewing on her hands, and she recently discovered her tongue. She looks like her dad, but so far has my personality, while DD1 looks like me and has FI's personality.

How is it going back at work?
I go back to work on Jan. 2. I feel lucky having had a relatively long leave, for the U.S. anyway, but it'll still be hard going back. I would be content being a SAHM, but FI and I decided when DD1 was born that it was a better fit for our family for him to be a SAHD. And huge props to him for holding it down when I'm at work.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier?
Having a longer paid leave. The first year is rough, and I much prefer nursing over pumping.

  • How old is you LO? 3 months Boy or Girl? Boy. Tell us a little bit about them. He's super smiley and huge (27 inches and at least 21 lbs) he's been STTN for a few weeks now which is wonderful.

How is it going back at work? It's good. I quit my job at Coffee Bean so I just work as a tutor at the local high school about 20 hours a week.

What is one thing that would make working as the mom of a young baby easier? Nothing. I have a very convenient job in terms of hours. I'm just hoping to get promoted which would give me 26 hrs a week and a raise, so I would still work 4 days a week.
