Hi Ladies!

I was looking to download an app for H and I to keep track of feedings, diapering, sleep patterns etc.  For those of you seasoned moms, is there one you prefer of the other?

TIA!

Re: Best Apps for Feedings, Diapering, Sleep Patterns etc.

  • You will probably not use any app... Babies tend to be a feed/diaper/sleep as needed type things.

  • I would ask the breastfeeding forum. I know there are some good breastfeeding ones. I actually used a sheet of paper the hospital gave us for about a week. Only because I was so exhausted, I couldn't keep track of the times I had fed or changed diapers and the doctor wanted to know how many wet and BM diapers we had a day since my son lost so much weight the first week.  My husband usually was in charge of noting down times and feeding/diaper changes etc. After about a week and a half, when our baby was back on track, weight wise, we stopped because it was just too much to keep up.

  • We used an app called Baby Connect (iPhone - no idea if it's available on android). It was very helpful & made us both feel like things were staying on track. I was still using it for timing naps & during potty training until a few months ago. DS is 3.5 yrs. the app helped track everything but was a fairly expensive paid app. Would also sync to DHs phone.

I loved the iBaby Feed app.
It supports BF, bottle feeding, and combination of both. I too tried those dumb sheets the hospital gives you and that's for the birds. I found the app most helpful at home for tracking diaper counts in the newborn phase, and also which breast/how long DD fed (because with no sleep it really is hard and I never kept up with a pin or bracelet), and then super helpful when I went back to work so I could remember when to pump and track my output, as well as see trends in my milk production. So many things can affect your supply so when I saw a downward trend I could immediately take steps to boost it back up (mothers milk tea, eating better, more frequent or longer pumping, etc).

I also got the Sleep version of the iBaby app. My biggest complaint was that they really should just make it a part of the main app, but oh well. Other than that I liked it and it really helped with sleep training because we could see DDs patterns.

  • Thank you ladies! Anyone have experience with the Baby Sprout app?
  • I have Android and used one called "Feed Baby."  The basic version was free and suited my needs, but you can pay for a version that has more bells and whistles and can handle multiple children, and multiple parents/care takers (so your SO can add a diaper change or feeding from their phone).  It has a timer for bfing, which I found really helpful, as well as the dirty/wet diaper tracker.  My milk was slow to come in, so I was obsessive about tracking diapers at first.  After a while, I stopped tracking those, but used the bfing timer and pumping tracker a lot.  It was like a lifesaver because I was so deliriously tired, especially our first few days in the hospital, I literally was having trouble adding up the minutes to figure out how long he had been feeding.

Thank you! This was really helpful. I am looking for an app that I can use with twins and that will sync with both phones.
  • I used Sprout with my second baby (and 15 mo old) and I liked it. It was super helpful to help track sleep, which was my main reason. It keeps track of nursing, diapers etc., which I used for awhile and liked. I plan on busting it out soon for the sleep part. I would recommend it!
  • I bought a Itzbeen device to track everything. It got a lot of great reviews, I am super absent minded sometimes when it comes to remembering times so I thought it might be useful. I am a FTM so no clue if it actually will be.

  • I'm a FTM, but I've looked at some of the apps.  I think I'll give baby a try because it looks easier to use for breastfeeding.  The screenshots and reviews make it seem really simple and useful.  BabyConnect looks like you have to do more to input a feeding and I like the automatic timing feature and pause button.  Sprout looks nice, but a little more of a journal than I want.
I will definitely put a contraction timer on DH and my phones pretty soon.  I doubt it matters which one.  I think my baby center app has one.
  • I used nothing with my boys- as someone said, I fed, changed, and did things as needed.
  • I needed to track everything because DS was losing weight in the beginning and I'd lose count at how often he fed (it's hard in the beginning when you're tired and it's all new).  But I found apps to be not-me-friendly.  I preferred just writing everything down in a notebook.  I'd record when he ate and on what breast on one page and then diaper changes on another.
