i didnt get much action on this on school age... want to get razor scooters for my 5  yr olds who haven't had scooters before but a bit overwhelmed by all the options- A, A2, A3, etc etc... I want something that will last them but also be easy to learn on (so maybe the newer models w/ bigger wheels & built in suspension/shock stuff would be better?)... would love any opinions. thx

So I just was searching and discovered that several of the razor A (basic model) colors are on sale today on amazon for $17. Seemed too good to pass up and I'm tired of trying to research it...figured I'd share the deal if others are looking...

  • I always bought whatever was on sale.  Their scooters are pretty similar - my kids can use theirs and their friends' interchangeably.  For a five year old, if balance is a concern might start with a three wheel Huffy.  Some kids rock scooters, others don't.  My middle is 7 and has no shame on a three wheel scooter - she prefers the stability to the Razor.  My oldest was using a razor with ease at the same age.

  • I thought about the 3 wheel but thought its life would be limited and also DS is often the youngest at the playground and I think would feel babyish on a 3 wheel. If they really can't do it after practicing I can always get them a 3 wheel for cheap I would think, to get the hang of it. I should probably just go to a store & look at them all & pick!

Not sure what store carries a good selection though- on Target's website it looks like most are online only.
  • Our Play It Again Sports usually has tons - if you have one, peruse there, then order new online.

  • We bought a scooter that had two wheels (3 wheels total like a trike) on the back that can convert to a two wheeled scooter once he is ready.

It is the Razor Kixi Mixi.  Amazon has it for $35.

I will warn that you should avoid buying it from VMInnovations from Amazon.  It tooks weeks to deliver and was horrible customer service.  It looks like Amazon is selling it directly now, however.

  • I have a 4 year old and got her the Razor A Kick Scooter in sweet pea (the pink one with the streamers).  The reviews all basically said that it's pretty easy to pick up and this version would last them for a lot longer than the 3 wheel ones.  Also, the 3 wheel ones had screws on the back that a lot of kids had problems being scratched with.  I know the sale ended yesterday, so this information is too late, but thought I'd share anyway.  =)
