Trouble TTC

Finally! An RE Appointment!

I've been inactive on here for a long time after considering infertility treatment.  My husband was in denial and said we were simply not trying hard enough.  I wasn't going to push him to an RE when one of us is not ready.  Finally, he agreed that it's time to get some answers.  I teared up after I made the appointment.  It's scheduled for Thursday.  I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  My pap just came back abnormal again and I just don't know what to think.  Hoping for some answers soon!

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts on here  :)

Re: Finally! An RE Appointment!

  • Congrats on the RE appointment. It can be a very exciting, but yet a stressful time. Hopefully you guys get answers from your appointment and a treatment plan.

I have to go in for my PAP in January and I'm freaking out because I had a LEEP for CIN 3 cervical dysplasia April 8, 2013 and I worry about an abnormal pap. Good luck on your PAP results, I know the waiting game can be SUPER stressful.

  • Good luck!!! That is exciting. My suggestion is to go in with a list of questions written down. I always seem to miss asking questions if I don't have them written down since each RE appt comes with a ton of information! It is hard to absorb it all! I hope you get some answers soon!

  • Good luck at your first RE appt. The testing phase can be stressful but the ladies here make it so much easier. They saved me when I was going through it. Like other PPs have said, make sure you bring a pen and paper to write down the things your RE says. Also, I googled questions and wrote them down to ask my RE at our first appt. You'll do great!

  • As someone who also had to wait for her DH to be ready to get answers/help, I want to say, it's awesome that you two respect each other, and also that you're on the same page now!!

Our RE mostly asked us questions at the first consult, then we saw him again after all testing was complete. He went through all details for us, I just took notes on my several pages of questions and had nothing left to ask. :)

    Good luck!

  • Hi and Welcome! It's so crucial to both be on the same page, saves a lot of arguments and heartaches. Mostly will ask for your and DH's medical history, family history. Not sure if you chart your ovulation, but I brought with me fertility friend last 3 months chart.

The mistake I made when going to the RE was that I made it seem like they were the only RE office I was researching. Sometimes, depending on where you are at that maybe the choice, but I'd interview them just as much as they are inquiring about you. I'd ask about their monitoring protocol, what their success rates are for medicated natural cycles, IUI, IVF. The IVF you can look up online, but it's nice to hear it from their perspective. How much involvement does the doctor have or is it more the nurse that you'll be interacting with? After how many cycles do they change the protocol?  What makes their RE office different and why should you choose them? If you are OOP, ask them for a price list sheet. I'd also ask your DH is there are any questions he wants to include.

Good luck, it is going to be overwhelming but hopefully you'll be on the offense instead of on the defense when asking your questions.
