Anyone have a newborn who refuses naps or takes short ones? Also colic...

This is all new to me, my other 3 kids were wonderful nappers, they would eat & take 2-3 hour naps at a time....our new little guy cat naps & only takes 30 min naps....on a good day, maybe an hour-to an hour & a half....also, he is showing signs of colic..he cries for 3-4 hours straight...I feel so bad for him...when he is awake, he is not content for very long....he doesn't like his swing or bouncy seat much either...my other kids loved their swing, so finding a place for him to be comfortable is not easy.

  • I don't have any experience with colic, but my first LO was a catnapper. She was that way until we cut down to two naps a day, and then she started napping longer. It was brutal. She would only sleep for 20 minutes or a half hour when she was really little. I thought I was doing something wrong, but that's just the way she was. It sounds like yours might be the same way, though maybe the colic has something to do with it.

  • I have the same baby. Never sleeps, rarely seems happy. I don't have solutions, but I do commiserate. One thing that has worked EVERY time (for at least an hour or two) is wearing her in the moby wrap. That and a glass of wine at night :)

This is my first baby, so now I'm afraid to have more!

  • I second baby wearing....if I can't calm her down, I strap her in and we take a walk. But only half the time will she stay asleep once I unstrap her.

  • Yes. Miles rarely naps more than a hour. Once per day, we might get an average sleep session on 2+ hours. We found out today that DS has a tongue tie and that's why he tends to want to nurse a lot and fusses. Our nights are full of screaming, crying and cluster feeding. Baby always wants to be skin-to-skin so DH started wearing him and we co-sleep. No real suggestions...just hang in there!

  • Have you tried Colic Calm? It's really helping our Little one. Helps with colic, gas, and reflux. Warning..it is messy! :)

  • This was us. Kid hates sleep during the day, only thing I found helps is swaddling him. The minute those hands are alowed free he startles himself awake and only does cat naps. Swaddling sometimes stretches out his naps 1-3 hours.

Also colic.. Since 1 week old -- it's tough. Real tough. Swaddling helps in this area too along with Water baths and colic calm.

Hang in there.. Rumor has it they grow out of it ., but you couldn't convince me of that now.
