Tonsillitis, Any experience?

I have only been on the receiving end of tonsillitis, I was young and I remember being sick..... a lot. I had my tonsils removed when I was 10 years old.
We went to the Dr today, and dd was diagnosed with tonsillitis, and she is miserable.
She is having a hard time swollowing, eating, sleeping.
I have been trying to give her foods she likes, fruit is always easy, but anything with lumps or hard to swollowing forget it. We have also reverted back to purées.
I froze some fruit purées to make Popsicles.

Does anyone have experience with tonsillitis in a 14 month old or small child? I would appreciate any words of wisdom.
We have been up every night for the past 3 nights. Hoping the ibuprofen gives her some relief!
Thank you ladies.

  • No advice, sounds like you are doing everything I can think of.  Would being in a steamy shower help maybe?  Soothe the nasal/throat passages?

DD just got diagnosed with croup so I commiserate with your being up and the worry that comes along with a sick kiddo!

  • No advice for babies just wanted to say I'm sorry and hope she feels better. These things were easy for me to eat when I had it: pudding, jello, mashed potatoes, soft bread. I do think using purées is a good idea just keep her hydrated.
  • Poor baby. My 5 yo had it recently, but improved quickly once she was diagnosed and given steroids. I'd stick with cold soft foods. Puree pouches in the fridge and yogurt tubes would be my go to. Both my kids like the chobani greek yogurt tubes (even my super picky big kid) and at 5 grams of protein it packs a punch. Besides that ibuprofen and snuggles. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Thank you ladies, we had a bit better night, except for the poopy diaper at 3:30 am!.... I thought we left that stage behind 9 months ago!!!
I am hoping dd is better by Friday, I am going to Vegas this weekend!
I was feeling guilty for leaving DD with DH and mil, but I need some time to myself!
Looking forward to enjoying a weekend paid for in Vegas! (Company Christmas trip!!)
  • Glad she's feeling better!

Don't feel guilty - easier said than done I know.  You need and deserve a break Mama!
