My SO thinks that you aren't supposed to open Xmas cards until Xmas. I think that is very odd and I have never heard of it before. So I open ones from my family before Xmas and leave the ones from his family until Xmas. I think that is a reasonable compromise but he still complains every year.

    That sounds like a reasonable compromise to me.  I have never heard that before.  We always open Christmas cards as they come and then display them until after Christmas.

    That's kind of awkward. When you see people, are you supposed to be like "Hey, I got your Christmas card, can't wait to look at it in three weeks!"

    Yeah that's a little weird. I open cards and display them. I thought everyone did that.. What other weird quirks does he have about Christmas. I'm intrigued now.

    He wants the tree to go up on the 24th and be down by new years. "It's bad luck to have 2 Christmas' in 1 year". It goes up before the 24th but I don't care when it comes down because I leave it for him to do.
    He wants Xmas dinner on Xmas eve.
    Not wrapping Santa gifts

    Never heard of that myself either. We open as they come & display them. 

    My H is the same.. he hates having the tree up in general & wants it down ASAP. If I let him throw away the Xmas cards when they first came he would do that too, but I insist on displaying Xmas & birthday cards until at least the holiday is passed.

    I grew up with our tree going up on the 24th.  But that is mostly because my mom hates clutter and didn't want it around much more than a week.  I always begged to put it up sooner but she was adamant.  But it always stayed up through New Years Day and came down on Jan 2.  DH's family does all Christmas activities on Christmas Eve - big meal, presents, etc.  They treat Christmas Day just like any other day.  I find that a little strange.  Of course I can't complain much because it frees up Christmas Day for us to spend with my family.

    I open cards upon receipt.  It's critical for sending a card in return if you didn't send one to that person!
