Job anxiety? A little different, would like your input!

Hey ladies,
So my husband and I were talking and I'd like to get a part time job before I take on full time stay at home mom when baby comes. Maybe at a children's clothing store, I've had anxiety and if I should/shouldn't tell the company(s) I am pregnant right away.. I know it's illegal for them to not hire sole due to pregnancy but I was wondering what you ladies would do/ are doing if you're in the same position? Tell right away? After hire? It's inevitable I would have to leave employment is <6 months anyway, any advice?
Thanks ladies, hope this was clear to understand!

  • I wouldn't tell them until after employment. Even if they say you weren't hired for another reason, they could be lying. They can come up with any excuse.

  • Maybe you should look for something temp because you know you're not going to return after the babes arrives?

You should do absolutely whatever you like, and you have my full support, but I think that if I were in your position I'd be looking for something seasonal or temporary because I don't like hurting people's feelings (peoples' feelings? I always get that wrong), which is completely absurd.

  • I agree with the above. When I took my new position I explained that I was moving overseas so I feel less guilty about when I leave (which I am). I also found out I was pregnant (6 weeks) a day after my interview and before I accepted. I've decided not to let them know yet as it's my first pregnancy and I want them to see I can do a good job before pregnancy comes into the equation.
  • I wouldn't tell them. I think customer service/retail is used to a higher turnover rate than if you were applying for an office job.

And, who knows, you may enjoy getting out of the house one or two times a week and hang on to the job after LO comes.

  • My boss just hired a woman today. She told us in confidence that she is 3 mo. pregnant and has not told the boss. My boss does not know I am pregnant either. And the only other employee helping me run the store right now is 6 mo. pregnant. When he figures all this out he will be traumatized but I think it's hilarious. I wouldn't tell them until you get settled in.
  • I accepted a job recently knowing I was pregnant, that I do not start until January. I full intend on putting off telling them until after I've worked a few weeks. I don't want to jeopardize such an awesome opportunity and hey, they'll have me for at least six months.

  • As my company is closing this Friday due to being bought out, and I do not have an immediate position at the new company, when I start interviewing I will not be telling them I am pregnant until after I have worked there a few weeks. I'm just not sure at what point do I give up interviewing because I can't feign ignorance of being pregnant to a new company. I guess we'll see.
