We are staying away from traditional toys. They never play with them. So we are going to hockey games, going to a concert, and going to mini golf or bowling.
My DD is 18 months old and this year we're doing very minimal (at least on our part- grandparents go all out!). I got her some wooden puzzles and a rack, mega blocks, some board books and the Bambi DVD (all gently used from either consignment or yard sale site). I also got her a bubble machine and her own purse with a chunky bead necklace.
Her big items from her grandparents are a trike (that converts and I can push), and a sit n spin.
@cafecreme I'm not gonna lie, when DS got the sit and spin I used it almost as much as he did..
We got DS a new tablet (because it was only 20 bucks with my phone upgrade) he's going to be over the moon Were paying for him to do winter football (he plays fallball every year but wants to further his training) I also want to get some little things like.. Legos One of those snack and sip cups (he loves stuff from commercials) And I'm totally stealing the idea of going to do things like mini golf and bowling etc.
We stick to three presents and his stocking, it's been hard to narrow it down to just three! Kid toys are so much fun
I'm making him a lego table (ikea side table with baseplates glued on) and some legos, inflatable Hulk hands (we gave them to his friend for a b-day present and he reaaaaally wanted to keep them!), and I'm making him either a superhero blanket for his bed or some superhero pillows.
DD will be 3 in June and I have apparently lost my mind when it comes to gifts this year.
We're transitioning her room into her "big girl" room, so I got her a giant bean bag chair to replace the glider that will get moved into the nursery. Her big Santa gift is an American Girl Bitty Baby, which I am so excited about. She's been on a huge baby kick and knowing that she has a baby sister coming has only amplified it. From DH and I she'll be getting markers, crayons, a magnetic calendar, a cradle for her baby, and some add-ons to her kitchen she got last year. There may be more, but I can't remember right now.
DS will be 3 in May. We are getting him a play kitchen, a Jake the Pirate duplo set, a cookie monster count and crunch toy, a Dinosaur Train toy, MMCH dvd, Yo Gabba Gabba dvd, and a couple of books.
DS is getting a tablet and a rocking moose for Christmas. The tablet is because we have a 16 hour flight coming up and I want to give him some form of entertainment during the flight.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
My sons are almost 7 &9 do they are older than most mentioned here. They are getting a Nitendo 3DS XL and games, books, Legos, a scooter and maybe some other small stuff not counting their stockings. They know it's a minimal Christmas as mommy doesn't work and new baby on the way, plus they get gifts from grandparents, mine aren't together and of course aunts and uncles.
For my 2.5 year old, we are going with a new wooden train set (his current set and table were bought second hand and have pieces missing) and accessories, a tool belt with tools, a teepee for his room, and some small toys and art crafts. We are keeping it smaller this year since we spent a ton of $$ on his new "big boy" room last month.

Haha! That thing does look fun. Although, I don't know if my pregnant ass would be able to fit on it. It would be nice to try!
My son is 2.5, he is getting Planes, Fire and Rescue on dvd, a Buzz Lightyear, a Thomas and friends train engine, an activity table and some new books.
DD is 3/12 and has been asking for the Sofia the First Floating Palace toy, so we got her that. We're also getting her some puzzles, playdoh, Tangled DVD and an Ariel bath towel, We also got her Candyland as a stocking stuffer and will be putting in more than usual into her savings account. She is also getting a bunch of stuff from family so we decided not to get her as much as we have in past years.
My DD is 2. We got her a dress-up chef outfit with utensils and oven mitts to go with her play kitchen, Doc McStuffins slippers, and a feeding/diapering doll set (in hopes that it helps her practice to be a big sister...yes, ulterior motives with that gift, but she does love her dolls, too). For stocking stuffers, we got her playdoh, a book on becoming a big sister, Doc McStuffins bubble bath, and Sofia the First silverware and plate.
My kid is being SPOILED rotten and I feel a little sour about it. The thing is.... Christmas and his b-day are two days apart, so he's getting a ton of stuff that will be divided between the two events.
From one set of grandparents: Melissa & Doug Activity Table, Car play mat, pottery barn sheets for his new big boy bed
From other set of grandparents: Mickey Mouse snack chair/desk for downstairs, twin bed and dresser for new room, several toy trucks, shoes
From us: Fisher Price Trike, all the Melissa and Doug things (lol), some Little People toys and accessories, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse toy, books galore
Other relatives are getting him Duplo toys, puzzles, Little People Wheelies sets, some Leapfrog stuff, clothes
DS turned 3 in Early August. So far I picked up a tablet (he loves the iPad and DH is tired of sharing!), a scooter and doodle mat, books and stocking stuff. This weekend we'll be picking up other items. My list includes a toddler backpack, watch. Imaginext items (tbd), action figures, matchbox carrier (like the truck), and a baby doll (I told DH this was a must, just a simple one without any frills, maybe one of those little bottles with it...he lives real babies and with his own on the way he needs practice!) he is good on clothes and shoes. I kind of want to spoil DS this year...he last only child Christmas!
This is stuff the kids are getting from grandparents and us.
DD (7): Furby, razor scooter, Hello Kitty karaoke, Orbeez pedicure thing (I am so not excited about this but she's been asking for it forever), American Girl matching doll/girl pajamas, some books and art stuff
DS (3): Lincoln Logs (his name is Lincoln, we kind of have to), Thomas Trackmaster set, Thomas mini backpack, Playmobil takealong farm set, Daniel Tiger trolley and figures
DS is harder because his birthday just happened and he's old enough to enjoy presents but young enough that he doesn't ask for particular things, plus we have all the big stuff (train table, play kitchen, bike, etc.) that I can think of for his age. I'm not spending as much on him as DD, but I'm trying to get about the same number of presents.
DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11 * #3 due 3/9/2015
What we are getting our 3 yr old son- Legos- just a big box of the bricks. My mom pulled out our old Legos last weekend and DS played quietly with them for such a long time. Remote control car. Take apart Crane, this is really cool. It comes with a little drill and they can put it together and take it apart themselves. Marble Run.
He's then getting some Thomas the train stuff from my parents and magna-tiles from his great grandma. He got a train table and play kitchen last year so no big presents this year!
H and I have been debating how we want to do Christmas for our son. He'll be 17mos., so he'll be excited to open gifts but it's more of a quantity vs quality thing with him. We've decided to follow our own parents tradition of one "big" gift and then some smaller less pricier gifts. His big gift this year is a toddler trampoline (not age appropriate but H says the age on the box is suggestive). Then I got him clothes that I'll wrap individually (quantity). He loves coloring and the dollar store had the cutest jake & MMCH color books. He loves his blocks, so I'm going to buy him a LEGO Duplo set (hoping he'll like those). Then we'll get him hot wheels, books and other little things to wrap and make it look like a lot more than what it really is.

I keep hearing how annoying that toy is. My 8 year old niece got it for her birthday...and the beads got EVERYWHERE. Good luck!
Green Toys had a secret sale on amazon on Black Friday and had toys for at least 75% off. I went crazy bought DS 7 different things. We were really only planning on getting him 2 gifts, a baby doll and a toddler-sized Cat in the Hat hat (he's obsessed). I don't even think we are going to have him open them all on Christmas...he still has birthday presents from November he hasn't played with.
We are hoping family gives him books, which would make him very happy. Crayons and coloring books are good, too, because we go through them very fast.
My son is 3 and VERY spoiled from all sides of the family so this list is the combined gifts he's getting from us, both sets of grandparents and Nana( great grandma) and Santa
We do a Xmas eve box instead of stockings and his will have - pajamas a new cup the planes fire rescue movie and cocoa
This is stuff the kids are getting from grandparents and us.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to insist she use it under highly controlled conditions because the last thing we need with another baby in the house is lots of tiny things everywhere.
