Re: Second and Third trimester discussion (12/08)

  • Holy back pain...I hope I can last until next week for cerclage to come out:( contractions and back pain with cervix doing nothing is terrible. I know that is what it is there for but with 2 1/2 year old it is so frustrating. Going on like this for 5 weeks. I've done baths , rest, water, everything I can think of. They just stop when they feel like it. Ok sorry rant over:(

  • @mmheartspb I haven't been exercising at all during this pregnancy, but I also never really exercised at all before it, either. I know that makes me sound horribly lazy, and I probably am, but my doctor is ok with it, and given my back and hip pain, it's simply just not going to happen.
That said, floor exercises, walking if you can, and I second the compression socks!

Holy cow, @dragonfly1809 - 5 weeks! So exciting!

Little lady is super active lately, and it's painful. I can't believe she's packing such a punch at only 26 weeks... my ute hurts... 13 weeks to go!
  • Does anyone know anything about compression socks?

I'm flying across the country for Christmas, but I don't know if I should get knee-high, thigh-high, or full on stocking and which level of compression.

  • @dragonfly1809 Holy Moly! Just 5 weeks??? I'm so excited for you to meet your little boy! I remember when I was pregnant with my first, I seriously thought he was going to come climbing out my belly button at one point in time.  My boss thought she needed to call an ambulance. SO PAINFUL! That only happened once for me, so here's hoping it's only once for you, too!

@samuelismomma I've got back pain, too, and have yet to figure out how to make it go away... So sorry you're suffering.  Hope you can make it one more week!

@mmheartspb I really haven't been doing much in terms of exercise.  I walk my boys to school every morning and walk back to the school to pick them up.  Outside of that, it's the typical bending to clean the house, pick up, etc.

Still struggling with sleep - it's too hot or too cold, or I need to roll over, or I need to pee or I have to do this, this, this, this and this tomorrow so I'm going to think about all that right now... UGH!!!
I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to worry that we don't have much for baby, but I'm trying to wait on my registry completion discounts so I can get what we need a little cheaper.  I also know my family is going to be buying Christmas gifts for this LO, so I'm trying to hold off as long as I can.

And these Braxton Hicks are really annoying... not painful, just uncomfortable.  I didn't have any until 38+ weeks with my first, and none at all with my second (at least none I noticed).  They're happening about once an hour with this one, and always at the most inopportune times - when I'm on the phone with my boss, or when the A/C guy is explaining what he's going to be doing today, etc...

  • Hi Ladies! Hope everyone is doing well. I have a question for the group: When would you like to have the nursery and supplies ready for baby? I don't want to be a crazy early preparer, but I know these babies operate on their own time table, so there's no guarantee I'll get to near 40 weeks. I also know that I may not be up for much if I do get that far. Did you all set a particular goal for having everything ready?

@dragonfly1809 - Five weeks is pretty exciting!!!

@samuelismomma - Sorry about all the back pain. Are they still thinking this is a December baby for you? :(

@uneek1323  I've been in compression socks since I was about 5 weeks pregnant due to a pass-out episode from low BP.  My RE recommended knee high and said that anything higher than that and she feared I wouldn't actually wear them.  I actually don't mind them, but I think full on stockings would be an absolute pain in the ass to get in and out of every time you have to pee.  They are very tight and not the easiest to get in and out of.  I'll have to check what level of compression mine are.

@uneek1323 I have no experience with compression socks, so I would recommend asking your MW or OB. I think that I am going to have to ask for an Rx for some because my swelling is bad already. I think you can buy some without an Rx, but I figure the Rx ones are better made, although this is supposition.

ETA @pblge my son's nursery wasn't finished until he was six or seven months old. He didn't sleep in there until about that time anyhow.

@footprint  You can actually buy the prescription type ones, they are just a little pricey.  I got mine at a medical supply store and they are anywhere from $40 and up, but with insurance they were only $13.  If you can get a prescription, it definitely helps, especially if you want to buy a few pairs!

  • @LaRomana09 thank you for your response. I was going to try for an rx to save money. Here's an odd question, are the socks oriented to your right or left foot? I mean, when you put them on, do you have to put the left one on the left foot?

No, you can wear them on either foot just like regular stockings!

  • Hello everybody!  So many people in January 15 having babies and having contractions and other PTL signs - it's kinda scaring me!  Even though I have no indication of any issues except a day or two of possible BH contractions (and always after I've done too much).  I don't really have any questions at this point - waiting to see if the baby turned head down yet - I have an u/s on Thursday for that purpose.

@samuelismomma I’m sorry that you are so uncomfortable.  One more week!  You can do it!

@dragonfly1809 Wow 5 weeks!  That is awesome!!!

@mandi195 Maybe she’ll calm down as she gets bigger and the punches and kicks won’t hurt as much?  (A girl can dream, can’t she? LOL)

@mmheartspb I have been very bad about exercise and really haven’t done anything L

@uneek1323 I have an irrational fear of compression stockings – I’m not sure why.

@morethansparrows08 Sorry you are having problems sleeping L And I’m so glad you said that about the BH contractions not happening for you before.  I told my sister that I was definitely experiencing some on Friday night when we were out and about and she scared me to death when she said that she never had any until like 2 weeks before she gave birth.  Even though I know that every pregnancy is different – it’s nice to hear it from someone firsthand J

@pblge I’m 34 weeks this week and I have everything I need but everything isn’t in its place yet.  I will do that right after Christmas so around 37ish weeks?  I figure that if worse comes to worse, my sister will do it for me LOL

My goal was to have everything ready to go by 35 weeks, just in case. I have probably 90% of everything done. DH has to install the car seat, I need to do a last load of baby laundry, and set up the pack and play in our room. I like to be prepared :)

  • @mmheartspb‌ I haven't been exercising much (or at all) since I hit 3rd tri. I am on my feet a fair bit for work but I find my swelling is best when I hit that sweet spot of walking enough and yet not too much. Days when I am less active I am going to start pushing myself to do a bit more walking to try to reach that balance.

@MoreThanSparrows08‌ are we secretly the same person? I could have written you post word for word. From the same sleeping issues, to the registry and the BH this is exactly the things I am dealing with daily. Nice to know I am not the only one.

@uneek1323‌ I don't have any experience with compression socks, but sounds like PP's have got you covered!

@pblge‌ I am about 75% ready for LO now but am aiming to be fully ready, between christmas and new years which puts me between 35/36w. The timing of this is partly because by then my shower and xmas will be over (and I know I will be receiving gifts for LO) and partly because I feel like that is a good time to be ready. HTH!

  • @mmheartspb‌ I am in the second trimester and have been doing exercise videos, mostly prenatal. This one is really good because there are a few different ones on it and they are about 20 min each. You can do one or combine. You definitely feel it the day after https://www.amazon.com/Suzanne-Bowens-Toned-Prenatal-Workout/dp/B008X7JBPM

I was doing T 25 before and in the beginning of my first trimester. I have been doing the cardio and speed ones, but modifying the more difficult things.

My problem right now is the nasty sinus infection I have. I was up in pain all last night and had to get an antibiotic. They also have me low dose prednisone but my OBGYN said to try the Amoxicillin first and if it doesn't work to take the prednisone.

  • Does anyone know if there is a rule of thumb about staying within x minutes of home after x weeks?  All I'm finding on Google is information about flying.  My best friend is due 6.5 weeks ahead of me, and I'm trying to figure out how early I would need to have my shower in order for her to be able to come.  It will be about 1.5-2 hours for her.  I'm hesitant to ask because I don't want her to feel pressured to come if she's not supposed to...

  • @LaRomana09‌ I think it really depends on the person and the OB. FTMs tend to have longer labors, high risk moms need to be closer to care, etc. My OB recommended staying within an hour of hospital starting at 37 wks. Have you asked your friend? That might be the best option.

@megbmeg  Thanks for the input!  I haven't asked her yet, only because I wanted to get a better idea of what is normal first.  I'm a little hesitant to ask her and make her feel pressured to come if it's not realistic.  And my PgAL brain is hesitant to have a super early shower.  So I guess I'm just feeling it out at this point.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I think I'll go with knee-highs. I was worried about getting them up and down to use the bathroom, especially on the air plane. So it's good to know I don't NEED them to go that high up. We don't need to recreate any scenes from Tommy Boy here.
@uneek1323 - I have the full compression stockings and had to have MH help me pull them on every morning (I had the 20mm high/moderate compression stockings).  They weren't too bad getting on and off for bathroom usage since you don't have to pull them down very far (they don't compress your bump).  However, getting them on in the first place is the real challenge.  I used them when I was in the 20-something weeks when my edema was particularly bad - haven't used them since I've been on the GD diet because the swelling seems to have disappeared completely.  I actually liked the full stockings despite their lack of ease of use because I felt like it did a more complete job of removing the excess swelling for me.  Plus my legs felt so much better at the end of the day after using them. :)
