Stupid bottles - flow is too fast

Alright, so DH claimed that DD did well with the first Tommee Tippee bottle that I bought, and he had issues (somehow) with her and the Munchkin Latch.  So I bought a 6 pack of Tommee Tippees.  Then my mom said, "No no, DD does better with the Munchkin Latch."  That's a bad sign.  Then I leave DD at home with DH for an afternoon and come back to him telling me that the Tommee Tippees were way too fast, and she was "covered in milk," which is that last thing I want to hear since I'm pumping.  I did some more research and found other people saying that the valve on the TT's made the flow too fast for some babies, even with the slowest flow.  Considering that DD still gags/chokes sometimes while breastfeeding, she must be one of those babies.

So my question is this... do you have any recommendations for a very slow flow bottle/nipple?  I'm going to have him try the Munchkin Latch again and see if it works better (he was probably just trying to give her a bottle when she wasn't hungry since that's his solution to any fussing/crying).

Also, do you think I'll be able to use the Tommee Tippee bottles with her in the future?  I hate that I just spent so much money and now won't be able to use them.

Re: Stupid bottles - flow is too fast

  • Also used Playtex drop ins with slow flow.  Just switched to medium flow about two weeks ago.

  • @natalien1181 - I haven't tried the Medela Calma.  Maybe I'm wrong on this, but the nipple looks long to me.  She gags on pacifiers (she's very dramatic), so I think she might do the same with that bottle.  I was going to order some of the Lansinoh Momma actually and give those a try though; I've only heard positive feedback on those.

Our faves are the playtex drop ins w slow naturalatch nipples. We tried nuk brand and the flow was too fast.
This...we use the playtex "breastlike" slow flow nipples, have not switched to med. flow as LO is still doing fine with these.
  • LO is really picky about flow and nipple shape. He is a slow and steady nurser so faster flow made him mad. We ended up with Munchkin Latch as it's the only bottle he will take without a fight.
  • We use the comotomo bottles and the lansinoh momma. They're both slow flow, and lo seems to like them both equally.

  • I use playtex ventaire with the playtex natural latch slow flow nipple. DS likes them if I am at work and he can't have the breast.
  • Another for playtex ventair with natural latch slow flow. Although same nipples used with playtex dropins but diff bottle

  • The Dr. Browns with stage one nipples are actually slow as opposed to most bottles that are labeled "slow flow".

We use TT when LO gets a bottle, but while we spent time in the NICU, the nurses said Dr. Brown's and Avent offered the slowest flow nipples.

  • @zoegirlTX‌ are you squeezing the little valve on the TTs ? We had a couple times when it wouldn't come out and that was the problem. We are still on # 1s though.

Can i just threadjack and vent about the TT nipples??  DD has been on #1's and was frequently collapsing the nipple. So we bought a bunch of #2's and had nothing but problems with them. Sometimes nothing comes out- I stick it in my mouth & suck really hard. Sometimes it comes out super fast & she's wearing it all over her face.  She will still frequently collapse a nipple Sometimes the gets frustrated (too fast or slow??) and keeps pushing it out of her mouth and pushing it way with her hands.... so annoying!

HATE THESE BOTTLES. All of this has happened to me on multiple occasions. The nipple collapsing was the worst. Switched to born free, never looked back. Stupid Tommy and his stupid bottles.
