Words of encouragement re heart rates

For those with initially low heart rates:

I know hearing or seeing the heartbeat is such a joy, but can also bring a lot of unwanted stress to many if we think our baby's may be a bit "slower" than others.

At our first u/s at 6 wks 4 days, our heartbeat was around 107 bpm. The u/s tech and doctor said everything looked great, but in the weeks between appts, I saw a lot of people with much higher BPMs earlier in their pregnancies and other people stressing out with numbers between 100-120. Yesterday, we had our next check-up at 10 wks 6 days and our OB was able to detect a heartbeat on a doppler at a healthy 150 bpm.

So this is just a reminder to trust your doctors when they say everything is looking good and try not to "compare" yourselves or your baby's measurements to everyone here. I know it is really hard to be patient when we are all so excited, but things will develop as they should. May everyone have a healthy and stress-free pregnancy! :-bd

  • My 6 week appointment had us stressed out. The heartbeat was only at 99. But by 8 weeks it was at a strong 174. I go on the 18th to finally hear it :). Like said above trust the doctors.

  • I had my 10 week ultrasound yesterday. They didn't even tell me the heart rate. I saw the heart flicker but the tech was kind of rude but not. They had an emergency patient before me and I think she was still dealing with that.
  • You are so right. The doc told me that at 6 weeks anything above 100 is good news. My baby's heartbeat was 117 and I kept freaking out that it was relatively low compare to others. You don't even know how much I needed this post now!! Going to see it again tomorrow. Hopefully it will be in the 140s.

  • The heart has just started to beat at 6 weeks, so it's normal to be a little lower. LO was 117 bpm at 6w3d, but DS was up near 140 at my first appointment, which was 8w4d.

  • I had the opposite experience, my RE said that the heart rates "were a little higher than he'd like" and scares the crap out of me until I went yesterday for a 10 week scan & the rates went down & he was happy. I googled (I know that is frowned upon but I was freaking) and found that the "normal range" is really quite large.
  • I was 107 yesterday at 6w3d. My RE said as long as it wasnt under 90, it was ok at this point, & it should go up next time.
