to doctor or not?

DD has been going on 3 weeks with runny nose, a slight cough (nothing that is alarming, yet), congestion. She hasn't had a fever. Overall she's been pretty happy, eating normal and as usual a lot of liquids. But it has gotten to the point where I can hear that its getting pretty uncomfortable to breathe in and out. Medicine isn't helping at this point and the humidifier is a slight relief. At this rate at 4AM while DD heavily breathes into my ear I'm questioning whether I should take her to go see her pediatrician? Help, I need advice?!

Re: to doctor or not?

  • Aww, poor DD! Does your pedi have nurses who can call you back with advice if you call with this question? I've used them at our pedi's office many times in the past when I've had this same question. Most times, they've told me the symptoms don't seem to warrant a doctor visit, but to bring in if X, Y, or Z happens. If this is available to you, I'd give them a call and give them a thorough run-down of DD's symptoms and the nurse can use her experience to determine whether it sounds serious enough for DD to see the doc.

  • When DS went into week 3 with a cold that was not letting up I took him in.  He had a sinus infection.  We all had colds but he was the only one not getting better and the only one coughing a lot. If you're worried call.
  • I believe they do have a nurse line but I cant seem to find a number to it. Im worried she might end up with a sinus infection because she doesn't let her her nose run she just snorts it back in. Im going to keep watch for a day or two more if it doesnt get better I'm taking her in. Thank you all for your input!
