One-Size Snap Cloth Diapers: BumGenius 4.0 v. Lalabye

Have any of you ladies used both of these brands of cloth diaper? If so, which do you like better? If you've only tried one of these two, please feel free to comment as well. BumGenius seems to be more popular but some say the elastic wears out quickly. Lullaby seems less popular but gets great reviews all around. Agree/disagree? Thanks mamas!!! Michelle, First Time Mom.

I have no idea what Lalabyes are, except that Abby's lane is about to start carrying them.

On that note, I love my 4.0s... We've only been using them for 3 months, so I can't speak to the elastic issues. But I know they last longer if you dry them flat instead of hanging them.

I just got a Lalabye, and it's so dang cute! I like that it has openings in the front and back so the inserts can agitate out, but I forgot and snapped mine in so that didn't happen. I like that the inserts are super trim, too. I feel like my BGs are faster to put on him right now, but I've been using them a lot longer so I'm used to them. As far as elastic, primarily used RaRz and Charlie Bananas with DS1, and almost all of those elastics are shot. I think it depends more on stash size/frequency of use rather than brand.

I have a Lalabye and many BGs. I like the Lalabye, but even though the company swears that they are not "Menu diapers" they seem similar in quality to Alvas. The cut is different than Alvas, but the TPU and fleece layers seem flimsy compared to the more expensive brands like BG or RaRz. If the Lalabyes sold for $10, I think that they would be a great deal, but at their current price I'd rather get a BG.

I love my BG4.0! I do need to replace the elastic on a bunch, but they've been in use for a year or more (LO is 23 months). Also, I hear that the elastic is easier to replace on the newest version, though I don't have any new ones (yet) so I can't say for sure. Some people say that the aplix on the BG isn't good, but I haven't had any problems with it yet. Crossing my fingers on that one - I am a horrible seamstress and can barely handle elastic replacement. There's no way I could do the aplix myself.

I have about 4 BG 4.0s and 1 Lalabye. Lalabye is way cuter, and I like the trim fit with the bamboo insert. I also like the snap in insert that can go outside or inside (so it is one less diaper to stuff). My kid is only 4 months, so I can't tell you about durability.

I got a Lalabye when Nicki's started carrying them this past July (figuring they wouldn't carry them in they were china cheapie menu diapers... although Alva's color snap AI2s looks pretty much identical and I've seen most of Lalabye's prints on Alvas, HappyFlutes and others ... but Lalabye wouldn't be the first made in China diaper to have their design & prints copied by others...). I've had several BG pockets since LO was born (and added to them since, I'm a sucker for LE prints).

I love BGs stretchy tabs, you won't find them on any other diapers. That feature and the fact that there are just the 2 snaps together and that the inserts don't easily come out of the pockets (not a unique feature) make them daddy's favorite diaper.

Some people complain about the elastic of BGs, I've only used my oldest for ~11months and they have relaxed some but are still quite usable (my Flip seconds all 3 of them relaxed to the point of not being a good fit after less than 3 months

). I do like that BG pockets have elastic that is easy to get to so you can easily replace the elastic or knot the elastic to get some more use of them(I've not had to do so yet, and sadly only the pockets elastic is like this).

I like the fit of Lalabye's 3 snaps but it makes it a little more difficult for others not so familiar with CDs, the color by row snaps do make it easier to give instruction as to how to snap it and keeps other from putting a diaper on way crooked.

You can snap the inserts on top of the lining rather than stuff the pocket. (But if you do so it's not stay-dry and you'll still most likely only get 1 use from them...I only have the one set of inserts so it's 1 use for sure. True AI2s like BestBottom or Grovia do a better job at being re-usable.) If you stuff them and don't snap them in the inserts will self-agitate out so you don't have to un-stuff them. I usually stuff and then snap the inserts in so that they can't fall out /shift (I have this kid that thinks its fun to play 'throw all the diapers').

I like that the Lalabye inserts are bamboo rather than MF (if they were MF I probably would not have bothered to try the diaper, certainly not at that price). Most of my pockets really 'cost' about 4 dollars more than the initial cost because I buy the diaper and then buy a hemp or bamboo insert to pair with the MF insert is comes with to prevent the compression leaking that often happens for us if we only use MF in a diaper. But you can get Kawaii or china cheapies with bamboo inserts for even cheaper. Or you can get made in USA Thirsties pockets (my favorite pocket) for the same cost as Lalabye (or BG) prints that come with a hemp insert.
