What's the best kind of PB&J?

I am making some sandwiches to take to homeless people, and I'm just wondering what would be the most popular. I have been specifically instructed to bring PB&J. We are eating soup with them, and the sandwiches are for if they want something to eat later that night, so probably toasted or some other hot or "fancy" variation might not work. Thanks!

  • SS, Creamy on white without jelly.  Never, ever, jelly.  I can't handle the mush.

  • I voted SS. I like using strawberry preserves instead of jelly. It spreads better and it stays on the bread better.

  • Creamy peanut butter shouldn't even be an option. Crunchy is the only way to go. ;)

  • I'm making 24 sandwiches. I'm going with a group from work, and they divided it up so each person doesn't have to bring so much.

Thanks for the suggestions! Seems like there are a lot of varying opinions.
  • Always blackberry jam, always. I could go either way on the peanut butter, I like crunchy and creamy.

  • I realize now I should have chosen SS, but for your purpose, just keep it simple.
I prefer preserves (blackberry or raspberry), type of bread and PB depends on what kind of mood I'm in at the time. I'm only really particular about the fruit spread.

  • I am a big strawberry girl but my hubby says it's not a pb & j without grape!
  • Now I want some pb&j! So kind of you, @Maebb‌! I love creamy on wheat with strawberry (jam, jelly, preserves... whatev!).

  • I really prefer preserves. Strawberry or raspberry. I'm actually in love with Smuckers low sugar raspberry preserves. I think I'm in the minority though so I voted strawberry jelly, creamy PB, white bread.

  • Can't go wrong with a good ol' pb&j! =P~
I'm going to make one now.

I prefer creamy pb on BOTH sides of wheat bread with grape jelly on one side.
It has to be cut in half too. :D

  • Oh yes, cut in half diagonally.
  • <3 rye bread!

    have never had grape jelly...

havnt had a PB&J sammich in years! but guess who is having one next commercial break :P oh and strawberry jam always!

  • Always jam! I don't really care if my peanut butter is creamy or crunchy. But I would suggest creamy for the soup kitchen. Or maybe half and half if you can? When my church group does bagged lunches for the homeless we always use creamy.

  • Crunchy natural PB. Always crunchy. Bread & spread depends on what's in the house. But always always always crunchy natural.
  • jam (any kind, although raspberry and stawberry are favorites) and crunchy PB on multigrain bread.  yum.

I prefer preserves (any kind, but especially love strawberry) on wheat or multigrain bread. PB doesn't matter. Any contribution is super sweet of you, and I think you're overthinking for this. Make whatever's handy. I'm sure the sandwiches will be very much appreciated no matter what it on them.

  • Whole wheat bread is more nutritious than white, and IMO is the better choice for this reason. I think as a general rule nutritious foods are more expensive than junk food, and people who have to eat at soup kitchens probably have a harder time being able to afford the healthier choices, so I think providing them a healthier option is nice.

  • SS-- I guess I'm the only person who hates PB&J?  DH has a passion for trying new jams and jellies and I have yet to find one I really like.  Plus the fruit part-- whether jam, jelly, preserves, always makes the bread mushy by the time I ever have time to eat it.  And I can never get a good ratio of peanut butter to bread without my mouth being too dry.

  • I said creamy peanut butter and grape jelly, cause I do like that the best from the options. But!! Blackberry jelly/preserves would be ideal. This sounds amazing right now!
