Work at home moms with nanny - nursing??

Ill be working at home with a nanny here three days a week (LO will be going to daycare two days). Wondering if I should just nurse rather than pump on the days he is home? I'd probably be able to continue working while I'm pumping and it'd be hard to nurse if I have a conference call or something. Does anyone else have experience with this? Also, if I pump on Tues while he's at daycare he can use that milk on Thurs but not sure if Thursday's milk would be ok for the Tues after that. Maybe I should be posting this on the BF board.

  • Thanks! I figure I'd be allowed a break to pump if I was in the office so I should be allowed a nursing break at home.

  • I just saw on TheBump tips that BM is fine for 8 days! Everyone says something different :)
  • Yeah I'd definitely nurse over pumping if possible.  Though, nursing can take longer and be more frequent but if you could get used to nursing baby in a sling or something, that'd be good.  Also, what'll you have your nanny doing while you're nursing baby?  Maybe light housework?

  • Definitely nurse if you can. It is so much easier and more quiet than a pump.

Personally, I didn't freeze milk unless I absolutely had to because it is much more user friendly in terms of being re-offered, left out etc. if it has never been frozen. You will know if milk goes bad, it is not a pleasant odor.
  • Yes, I definitely nurse when working from home. You can use Th milk on T. Or you can start a freezer stash and have a rotation going (I do that). Freeze Th milk (I wfh Fridays) and use frozen milk on Monday.

  • 3 kids, and 52 months of nursing and WFH during the time. I nursed at lunch but then had nanny give a bottle during other feedings (generally 1 mid-morning and 1 mid-afternoon). During these times I pumped. This worked well, b/c I would pump hands free and it got my baby good at taking a bottle for those times when I was away (date night, travel, etc).
