Cloth Diapering

Diaper cream

Another newb question. I have a stick of CJs Butter, is this something I should apply at ever diaper change or only if there is redness? Is there something more heavy duty you use for rashes that I should have on hand. Or is just having the CJs enough?

Re: Diaper cream

  • I just apply when there is redness.

I use the tub, so I can get a good amout on if he has a bad rash.

  • We only use it when there is redness.  We've had good luck with that, or coconut oil if she has a rash.  But we also have boudreaux's on hand to use with a liner or disposables if it's really bad.

  • Ftm here, but I plan to use plain coconut oil or a mixture I've made (recipe below) for rashes/redness only.

    3Tbs beeswax
    1 Tbs she's butter
    2 Tbd coconut oil
    1 Tbs jojoba oil

If it gets really bad, I'll use a little zinc oxide. Hopefully other cd mamas can tell us if that's a good plan.

  • I use CJs just for redness and that's all we've needed.

  • I may be in the minority, but CJ's doesn't work well for us. I use coconut oil for a nighttime barrier and minor redness, and Grandma El's for more stubborn issues.

I thought it was strange too. But it's true. Maybe because it's the 3rd ingredient? Shea butter and olive oil are 1 & 2.

Grandma El's smells like the Strawberry Shortcake doll I had when I was a kid.

    Just me?
You're not the only one! I think it must be the exact same smell.

I like CJ's in the tub, but not the stick. I find the stick too grabby to apply easily. For a stick I much prefer Grovia Magic Stick.

And also put me in the same category as preferring Grandma El's for stubborn rashes. If I don't have that handy, then I like Magic Stick or Waxelene, because the beeswax helps a bit as a moisture barrier.

Mostly I put diaper cream on DS if he's a bit red, or if I know that he's going to poop soon. Makes cleanup a bit easier and protects the skin a bit.
