Paint or stain? Home decor poll

We have "Cafe" brown bamboo flooring on the floors and stairs, white on the back of the stairs, and a cool grey on the walls. The baby gate is painted white, but we're not really sure what to do with the handrail we just put up. I think most often hand rails are stained the color of the stairs, but the stairway is really dark and I'm not sure if another pop of white would help? 

I don't know why I'm so indecisive lately...

    I would normally say have it match the rest of the trim in the area (which looking at the picture would mean white) but white paint is just going to pick up hand/finger prints like @holachicaaa said.

    Maybe a compromise could be to get a whitewash stain? Or if you decide to go with white, I would get an enamel or something easy to clean.

    Paint it white to match the trim and brighten up the stairwell. 

    Stain takes forever and is a harder clean up/application/dry time IMO.

    personally i'd stain it to match the stairs/floor, but what would really irritate me is the angle of the handrail and the angle of the opening and they way they overlap.  is it really necessary to have the handrail?  or could you install it on the other side?

    @AprilRose1‌ we made it! $20 bucks and maybe an hour. It was super easy, just wood glued and screwed some trim pieces together and installed it with hinges. There are lots of diy options if you Google it.
