30w w/ twin boys... 19% discordance

My boys are at 19% discordance.. my doc said I have to be on stricter bed rest at home for the next two weeks. She's going to do another u/s then and if they hit 20% I might have to be admitted to the hospital on bed rest. Baby A grew the 400 grams/month like he was supposed to, but B only grew 250 grams in one month.

Did this happen to anyone else? Anything more I can do besides try to eat more and rest? I figured I'd have small babies bc I'm a petite person, but I'm just very bummed that B is now 3wks behind and restricted

Maybe I'm worrying too much and this is kind of normal at this time? I'll be 31w tmr.

With my second set of twins there was always about 15-20% difference in their weights. It didn't seem to concern my doctors too much since their weight difference was consistent for all three trimesters--baby B was almost always 15-20% bigger than baby A. And when they were born (37w2d) they were 4lbs 11oz and 6lbs 4oz. Are your doctors concerned since their weights have just now started to differ? And hang in there--it is impossible not to worry, isn't it?

I'm sure I'm more concerned than they are... but yes they keep getting farther and farther apart. First it was 7%, then 10%, then 4 weeks later jumped to 19%. The last big jump is what they are concerned about.

I assume they're ID? If they're fraternal the difference isn't as much of a big deal since they're really "just siblings". Also remember that the ultra sounds aren't perfect. The discordance between my boys at 35 weeks was I think, 11% - turns out the scans were way off and the difference when they were born was actually 38%. My boys are fraternal, and baby b (the smaller twin) had a 2 vessel cord, which is probably part of the reason for him being SO much smaller (more than 3 lbs at birth). He was perfect when he was born, and his scans were way off. Had they been more accurate they actually would have taken them after that 35 week scan, instead I made it to my schedule c/s at 38 weeks, and I'm glad.

It was likely a combo of a placenta issue and the 2 vessel cord, but we didn't do a biopsy of the placenta since I'm not having other kids we didn't feel the need to worry about concerns in future pregnancies.

but both boys were always growing so there wasn't a ton of worry over time. Hang in there. Rest up and remember the scans aren't always accurate and if they're di-di one just might be a smaller guy.

I am having Di/di boys and at week 27 one didn't grow at all and one grew normally. My fluid levels in the smaller baby were also much much lower. I was out in the hospital and given steroids. After a week of hospital bedrest, drinking a gallon of water a day and eating tons of protein rich foods my little guy had a huge growth spurt and his fluid rose. We still don't know what happened really. We are still being closely monitored weekly and I am on home bedrest. He is gaining weight but his brother is growing much faster.

I have di/di girls. MFM said 17% @ last scan.But they are both WNLs for singleton weights.... so I think maybe that doc was hurried and unfamiliar with us. We have one more scan and well see what they did then... :-) Good luck!

My twins were showing quite a bit of difference around that time as well. My OB (wonderful man) reassured me and let me know that the scans aren't accurate and they're basing them on charts that may or may not be accurate as well. At birth, they were indeed much different weights - 6.4 and 4.12 at 34+1. The smallest came home soonest - the day after me, and they were both on room air from the start. I'm sure your OB will just be watching to make sure Baby B keeps progressing. My OB said slower growth is okay, no growth is not. No need to worry, Momma!!!

@auntjessy‌ did u go into labor at 34w or did they want to deliver your babies then due to discordance?

I was scanned today & they r at 28% discordance now

baby b's placenta has high resistance or something. So it doesn't work as well as As. Doc made mention of getting me to 34w bf I deliver unless more goes wrong.
