ED v. EOD sex during your FW

Good morning ladies,

I have read and heard differing things about whether it is better to try to HIO every day or every other day during your FW. My OB said EOD is "sufficient" but I'm not sure if that means we should not do ED or if EOD is just the minimum he recommends. Of course I didn't think about asking him this until I had already left the office and was thinking more about it. So I'm just wondering what you ladies do/ what your opinions are on this?

My opinions are 100% not backed by science just my own experience.

My 2 BFPs were the result of nearly ED timing. As a result, I think I've convinced myself that ED is necessary when it probably isn't.

I've seen ladies get KU with 0-5 timing and ladies with perfect timing don't.

I think EOD is fine though - I wish I could practice what I preach.

You should watch the great sperm race on youtube - it really helped me put things into perspective.

@PinkCamino- Thanks! I did watch that last week! It was super interesting and informative, but also made me question how anyone ever gets pregnant! I think I am going to try for ED this time because me and my H's schedules actually allow for it for once, so I feel like I should take full advantage.

This is also based on my own experience/opinion and absolutely not based on anything credible.

The two BFP's I've gotten this year has been with EOD timing. I also just watched The Great Sperm Race and they said every 2-3 days is sufficient to build up sperm reserves but not have too much old sperm.

So our plan is sex EOD as soon as my period ends until after I'm sure I've O'd, usually about 2-2 1/2 weeks. I couldn't maintain that type of schedule with ED sex. Its exhausting!! The movie also pointed out that the quality of sex is just as important as quantity of sex. I've been trying very hard to just try to enjoy the experience and not focus on getting pregnant (impossible). I know for me, I can't maintain quality of sex ED...its hard enough EOD.

I hate this process so much because you feel like there should be SOMETHING you can do to make sure you get pregnant, but I think a lot of times its just stupid dumb luck.

I agree. Soooo much of it is pure luck which just sucks. I hate having no control. I realized that even more after watching the Great Sperm Race.

This is not always true. If there are known sperm issues EOD is better. If there are no known sperm issues ED is fine.

seeing we're talking about sperm, what are your thoughts on O-5?

I saw a couple ladies on TTGP who report BFPs with 0-5 timing (only). I wonder if its because there O is off or if O-5 is still FW.

I have seen people say this too, but I always kind of side eye it, because O-5 seems to be kind of pushing it to me. I think their O is off. That's just my totally uneducated guess/opinion.

Neither do I. I just stick 0-3, 0-2, 0-1, O and O+1 per FF.

I've just seen a few with farther timing O-4 or 0-5 lately and was curious.

We're believers in ED but I also know MH had a normal SA. Our BFP was with ED sex. But, it's tiring. I'm so glad I'm in the TWW now so we can take a break!

I'm a SS B-) bc of my jacked up cycles and rarely Oing I just try to get in a couple BD sessions if I suspect O from signs/FF. It's a total crap shoot since my body gears up to O and then doesn't quite frequently. I wasn't charting with our first bfp so I can't say with that one; this most recent came with O-1 and O+1 timing. (H turned me down on BDing on what turned out to be O day)

EurydiceNymph - that's impressive!

We usually do EOD - but right around ovulation maybe ED for 3 days. We find ED tiring, but I'm thinking maybe we need to try ED.

During the fertile week we do ED or try to. I agree that it gets tiring so sometimes we need to skip a day.

I know this comes up on the regular, but DH seems to find the pressure to do either EOD or ED a total boner kill. We might have sex 5 days in row, sometimes twice a day, randomly but the minute I say that we should have sex 5 days in a row (or even every other day), you'd think I clamped a chastity belt on him.

This cycle our timing was better than usual, but yesterday on O he was avoiding physical contact like I had the plague. Its like he can sense the crazy desperation.

We usually try for ED. I don't tell H the exact date of O, because he gets performance anxiety as we get closer. I'll just give him a general time frame.

I'm really impressed with the ladies who go for 2x a day! I am tired enough every day...

@blackbird818 pretty much all the time...I would say we have sex 6-8 times a week on average and maybe 3 days it will be 2x and during the FW we do 2x a day everyday, but don't stress if it doesn't happen...lifestyle changes really helped our sex life because it took a big dip for a while. @nikiswimr lol that's funny! I don't want to say it's routine, but it's worked into our schedules lol

@linkloveszelda26‌ We got 12 of the last 15 days and at the end we weren't even getting fully undressed. Bottoms off and get it done (talk about a quickie)! I'm always glad to get to the 2WW to just have sex for fun.

For us, it all depends on DH's work schedule. Since he works 2 jobs, there's at least 3 days a week that we don't even see each other. Sometimes, he will come home and wake me up, but I don't even qualify that as a quickie. We try to hit EOD and maybe a couple days in a row, but that's about all we can handle.

ETA: Our RE is of the opinion that EOD is sufficient in our case and DH doesn't have any sperm issues (thankfully). He said that we could try ED, but if that was too stressful/exhausting not to worry about it.

I think one of the major problems with ED that we as women overlook is how difficult it is on our DHs especially when they know they need to perform.

I think ED is a good way to destroy your sex life if 1) you don't already have lots of sex that amounts to ED, and 2) you are telling your H that the "plan" for sex is going to be X. Really, anytime it becomes about "you must perform" the dynamic of love making changes.

Some people are fortunate to have a partner who is the one who wants to set a TTC schedule for sex and does not have performance issues. EOD is plenty - seriously, the sperm is going to hang out and survive, your timing will be awesome, and you will have only a 20% chance of getting pregnant (exactly the same as ED assuming no issues - because you will still have awesome timing).
