Healthy Living Check In - 12/8/14

Hey everyone!  @powerofbacon and I are taking over this check-in.  She will be posting the Friday check-ins and I will post the Sunday night or Monday morning check-in. Which day will depend on my schedule, but most of the time it will be Monday morning.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We are a group of women striving to live healthier lives, whether that means losing weight, gaining weight, sticking to a specific diet, counting calories, avoiding counting calories, starting to exercise, continuing to exercise or anything in between.
We check in on Mondays and follow up with an accountability on Fridays (our favorite post of the week, because we love encouraging each other and celebrating all our successes!).

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Many of us are using MyFitnessPal to keep track of our eating and our exercise. MFP is a great tool to keep yourself accountable, and because it is set up as a social network site, we can cheer you on there as well as here. If you are using MFP and have not found us yet, let us know so we can friend you!

Re: Healthy Living Check In - 12/8/14

  • The Good: For the most part *see the bad* my food choices have been very good!

The Bad: The being alone loneliness is setting in and my food choices for the weekend suffered.

The Proud: I've kept up with all of my workouts since the beginning of December!

Your Plan: Well, I may be lonely, but I don't need to eat my feelings.  I ate crap yesterday and ended up feeling like crap all day because of it!  I'm going to keep up with the exercise, although I need to alter it some.  the burpees and the squat jumps are really doing a number on my ankles, so I may remove though and does do every other exercise every day rather than splitting them up to every other day.  Example: It used to be sumo squats, russian twists, and plank punches one day and burpees, squat jumps, and v ups the other.  Now I'm going to do sumo squats, russian twists, plank punches, and v ups every day in addition to the situps/pushups I do already.

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why?  Alaska!  I've already been to Hawaii, and the air was definitely much clearer there, but I can only imagine how much clearer still it would be in Alaska!  I would love to sail down Glacier Bay too.

  • The Good: Not much.

The Bad: Woke up with a horrible cough on Sat and wasn't very active and ate things I shouldn't have.

    The Proud: Not much.

Your Plan: Get my workouts in and increase my veggie intake.  Any time I have a cold veggies are the last thing I want to eat, but I need to!

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why?  Hawaii - I don't like being cold and the only time I'd go to Alaska would be in the summer when there's constant daylight.  I don't think I'd get much sleep so I'd be miserable and crappy!

  • Hey @menrandes, thanks for the check in and thanks for @powerofbacon helping as well!

    The Good: Ummm...I got nothing.

The Bad: No exercise due to the upper respiratory infection that kicked my ass for almost 2 weeks. Company party Friday night ended up being a whole lot of alcohol and a drunk pizza eating binge at 2:30am :\">

    The Proud: Ummm....nothing

Your Plan: Get back on track since I am feeling better! I would love to do Body Pump this afternoon but I am on CD3 and it's pretty rough right now. If anything maybe the elliptical. I also plan on eating healthy this week.

QOTW- This is hard but I would say Alaska. I know that Hawaii is gorgeous but I live in Florida and I am not that much of a beach girl. I love the outdoors and I think that Alaska would have a ton of stuff to do that I would love!

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

@rmpar29 I get that about not feeling well and then eating crappy because of it!  I know that while sick healthy foods are not what you want.  I know I don't!  But I'm sure they will help you feel better in the long run, maybe even help stave off a cold next time!
FX that you start to feel better soon!

@Nikolie93 I'm sorry about CD3.  That sucks!  *hugs*  Maybe doing a workout on the elliptical will help you feel better!  I know I never want to exercise during AF, but always feel at least slightly better when I do.
Man, sickness is kicking everyone's butt lately!  Hopefully your respiratory infection is gone, or almost gone!
What kinds of things are you planning on eating this week?

The Good: Not healthy living per-say, but I got a great workout in yesterday decorating my house for the holidays.

The Bad: My IBS has been so bad lately, so I have been eating crap all week.

The Proud: I actually went to the doctor on Friday for my IBS (something I never do when it gets this bad. I usually just suck it up and deal with it until it gets better) and saw a new nutritionist. She put me on a better/restrictive, but foods I will actually eat diet to try. I’m actually excited to see if this will have any impact.

Your Plan: Hopefully feel well enough to get some runs and good workouts in this week. I am completely cutting dairy and grains from my diet, so I am sure this week will be rough while my body detoxes from these foods. I am very hopeful this new plan will help me not only lose weight, but feel healthier overall.

QOTW: Hawaii for sure! I worked in Maui for a short while and I fell in love with the island. The fresh fish and amazing views and culture are just amazing.  (I should note I’ve never been to Alaska, so no real frame of reference to exclude Alaska)

@MrsRed09 A workout for any reason is still good! If you can get a workout in by doing chores or walking around shopping or decorating your house, that's multitasking in my opinion!!
    :D
I'm sorry to hear about your IBS being more sucky than usual.  It's good that you went to the Dr though!  FX that the new diet will be healing!!

The Good: I haven't had any binges. No more cookie dough either!

The Bad: Did eat Pizza Pizza Friday/Saturday; Didn't get any puppy walks in :(

The Proud: Three 1 hr gym sessions; Ate my packed lunches all week; Been having a protein breakfast shake every am

Your Plan: 3 1 hr gyms sessions as usual; Must walk puppy!!!

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why? Tough one!!! I'd love to go to both...but if I had to pick one first...Alaska...I LURRRVEEE snow and mountains and snow....!!!

@furrypaws Good job with those workouts and staying away from the binges!! Staaaay away from the cookie dough! I think pizza on occasion is fine, it's when you eat it all the time that it becomes a problem!
And I love me some mountains and some snow as well!

  • Hi @Menrandes, here's to another awesome week!

The Good:  My food choices during the week were awesome.  I really felt like I did great there.  Plus, I rejoined a gym, and got there twice.

The Bad:  The weekend hit.  My planned splurge went fine on Friday night, but then Saturday and Sunday we ended up in a state of kitchen demolition.  My dad had built some beautiful cabinets for one end of my kitchen.  As a result, kitchen is now a disaster area, and I ate like crap all weekend because it was just easier to order take out then to try to cook around it.

The Proud:  Rejoining the gym!  It felt great to get there.  Plus, this gym allows to bring a guest any time I go, so MH can go with me.

The Plan: This week, my goal is to get to the gym at least 3 days (slowly building up), and try to stick with the healthy eating through the weekend, with reasonable splurges.  We have a holiday party on Saturday night and a cookie party on Sunday, so it is going to be a good test!!

QOTW:  It is really hard for me to answer this, because I desperately want to go to both!!  I'd have to say that right now, I'd probably pick Alaska.  It just looks like something I have never seen before, and I really love seeing new places.

@PowerOfBacon Nice!  That's fantastic about the gym and your food choices!!
    :-bd
Kitchen demolition is always hard on a diet.  Don't worry, the dust will settle and you will get right back on track!
FX that you 'll be able to keep up with the healthy eating, even at the party!

  • I wanna join toooooooo!!! uhuuu

    So

    So, tell me:

The Good:I thought I put on 10 pound on my trip back home to see my family but I put only 5 ( only??? )

The Bad: I have been eating like crazy trying to satisfy all me cravings before I started my diet and exercise program , and I know this was only an excuse to eat like pig...

The Proud: I am going to start my exercise program today!!!!

Your Plan: I am going to try the Whole30 plan today and exercise at home for now. Getting a gym membership next month.

QOTW: I don't have what i could call a "beach body" right now and those are places that I do want to go to visit one day so... for now I would pick Alaska.

@VaBarnet Welcome to the check-in, I'll add you to the list!
Hey, when you are expecting a much bigger gain than what you actually had, that's a good thing in my book!
Good luck on starting your new exercise program.  What kind of program is it?
FX that Whole30 works out for you.  I know when I tried it my brain (if that makes sense!) felt better and clearer.

  • Oh yeah, I forgot about the exercise plan.

I have the Insanity Workout which I am going to try on my on pace because it is insane...
  • Welcome @VaBarnet!

@Menrandes I cooked up a crap load of veggies last night and MH made me Pork Chops on the Grill so I will either be eating that or my Salad with grilled chicken. I am going to leave the baked potato out for my dinner, I have gotten into the habit of eating them at night and when I try to lose weight I try to cut my carbs down to nothing past 2pm. So hard!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • The Good: I went running one day this weekend.

The Bad: I convinced myself not to go running the other day this weekend. There was a misty rain and I thought it would get worse.

The Proud: My arms are getting toned and my pants fit better (not fully back yet, but better).

Your Plan: Go to the gym for three classes this week, train with DH tomorrow, and run this weekend. Friday will be the rest day.

QOTW: I would choose Hawaii. I like vacations that includes the beach, a pool, fruitty drinks, hiking, and general exploring of a new place. Although I can do most of that here in Florida, it is nice to go somewhere else for it and not have to clean house for a bit.

  • Thanks for taking over the check-ins ladies.  You guys are sooooo awesome.

The Good:  Two days of healthy eating under my belt...

The Bad: the eating last week in Napa made me put on 3% body fat (though I didn't gain weight technically)

The Proud: Worked out yesterday and today (first two day stint in like two weeks!)  I also got my new Fitbit (a ChargeHR) and I'm super excited so hopefully that presses me to get a little bit more active this week!

Your Plan: I've got all my food planned out for the week, but do have two question marks - in laws are visiting tonight and then a work lunch on friday.  So, I will work out in the morning and hopefully at lunch and will do my best to track all of my calories.

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why?  Having never been to Alaska I think I'd choose there because I really want to go, but I LOVE Hawaii and love the beach so I think if I'd been to both I would choose Hawaii.  How's that for indecisive?

  • The Good: I worked out 3 times last week

The Bad:  I had a few lapses in emotional eating

The Proud: I withheld from buying fudge when I was out Christmas shopping with girlfriends this weekend, and I did not buy a chocolate croissant but stuck to a coffee afterwards

Your Plan: exercise 4 times this week, continue to resist the call of comfort food whenever possible. Make healthy meals all week.
@Kellybenelly83 Very good about working out 3 times last week!  Keep it up!
    :-bd
Lapses happen, but it's awesome that you had the willpower to stay away from the fudge and croissant!
Good luck with the exercise this week.  :) What kind of healthy meals are you planning?

@MrsG80inTN Two days of healthy eating is a good start! And it sounds like you have a really good plan for the week.  Hopefully the in laws coming and the work lunch wont derail you in any way!
Awesome on the fitbit.  FX that it gives you motivation!

I definitely want to go back to Hawaii someday, but I've been wanting to see Alaska for so long.  Hawaii was never really on my vacation radar until I went unexpectedly.
Hopefully if/when I go to Alaska it doesn't let me down!

  • @menrandes – I often eat my feelings too.  You’re right – you don’t have to do that.  So, keep your chin up and do better today.  I understand how burpees and squat jumps can really mess with your joints.  Take care of yourself and definitely like your plan of splitting things up.  Have you ever done Bulgarian split squats?  (OUCH!)

@rmpar29 – Sorry you aren’t feeling well.  I’m right there with you on foods when sick.  I hope you’re feeling better today?

@nikolie93 – Sounds like the sickness is going around.  I’m so sorry you’ve been sick.  Body Pump would be difficult with CD3, but the elliptical generally helps me.

@mrsRed09 – Yay for a great work out and decorating your house.  I’m glad you have a good plan with the diet.  I hope it has a positive impact for you.  Cutting out dairy and grains would be hard for me – especially during detox – but you’ve got this!!!!

@furrypaws – YAY no binges or cookie dough.  A couple nights of pizza won’t kill ya, but maybe lay low with it this week?  What all are you putting in your protein shake?

@powerofbacon – way to go on rejoining the gym.  Did you do classes or just regular workouts when you went?

@VaBarnet – Welcome.  Glad your weight gain wasn’t as bad as you expected.  I use that satisfy my cravings before dieting excuse too.  Sometimes it’s good… other times not so much.  Are you just doing the Whole30 for the day or are you starting the whole month of it???  I did Insanity over the summer – it’s cray cray.  I do love T25 though J

@kellybenelly83 – We all have lapses, but sounds like you did great with your friends and you rplan is solid!

@flyoffeve – Way to go on the run.  I hope it was good for you.  What are you and DH doing to train???

Your Plan: Stick to meal plan. Exercise 3 times this week. QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why? Summer - Alaska Winter - Hawaii Just for a season change.
@bluedaisy0627 Great job on packing your lunch!  Keep it up all week and it will be a habit!

  • @Menrandes Yes, it feels good.  :D

@MrsG80inTN DH and I are training for our second Savage Race that will be in late March. When we train we run over to the nearby park. It has a few body weight machines- rows, triceps, chest press, and lat pull-down. We do three reps with a run around the park (1/2 mile) in between each and then run home. There is also a cargo net we climb up and down on the far side of the park during each run around. There is also a bar by the weights. My goal is to do a pull up.

  • Hey All!! I'm relatively new to TTGPAL and I NEED NEED NEED to be a part of this check in. My eating habits have hit the skids since my m/c and I need to get back on track. I also have lagged in exercise, so that needs to change ASAP.

The Good: I ate breakfast today. I don't like eating in the mornings and I really don't like eating cold things in the winter. Breakfast is annoying because easy stuff is cold and it is in the AM. Haha. I had Greek Yogurt with Chia Seeds and Pomegranate Seeds today. It was yummy.

The Bad: I drink too much. MH and I are doing a no drinking during the week thing. Hopefully that will help.

The Proud: I'm proud that I genuinely like healthy foods. It is just the preparing them and actually eating them that is the problem.

Your Plan: Do better meal planning and make time to eat good foods. I keep saying I'm too busy, but that isn't a good excuse. I need to make a plan and follow through.

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why?

Hard question!!! I have been to Hawaii a few times and enjoy it there. The air smells sooooo good! I would have to pick Alaska since I've never been there and I really like mountains and hiking. Plus the wildlife is great. I didn't see any wildlife in Hawaii except sea turtles (AMAZING) and fish in the reefs.

    @TowerClimbersWife
Welcome to the check-in!  Joining us is a good first step!
Breakfast is so important, so good job on getting that in today!  Maybe after grocery shopping pre-prep what you can so it's easier when it's time to prepare to eat?  I know I always wash my grapes when I get them home and I slice up carrot and celery.  If it's already prepared it's usually much more likely that I'll eat them!

  • Hi @TowerClimbersWife :-h Glad to see you joining us! :)
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • The Good: Got my new Saucony's in! Now I may actually be able to run. My last pair were worn down to the plastic in the heal.

The Bad: I'm not doing any of my weekly plan. Just sitting over here sucking it up.

The Proud: I still checked in even though I was thinking of just dropping out.

The Plan: I want to get grocery shopping done again this week. My volleyball leagues is also over - so I am planning on replacing game night with a work out at the gym. I feel like I just need to suck it up and get in there. I also hope to spend less time on the couch and more time doing things in my apartment.

QOTW: I have never been to either. Right now I would have to pick Hawaii because today was a gloomy winter day and I hate it. But my husband spent some time in Alaska in July (many years back) and I would love to see Alaska.

@scubadiva30 I'm very glad you decided to check-in instead of dropping out!
That's great about the new shoes!  Hopefully you'll be able to get in some running now.  I've got my FX for you that you'll have the motivation to get back on your weekly plan!

  • @scubadiva30, Is this your second pair of saucony's or have your had more? I tried them once and although they were comfy I found the heel did what yours did relatively quickly.

And don't quit here, we'd miss ya!

Because I had absolutely nothing good to say about last week I just wanted to say I did a pretty good elliptical workout for 45 minutes tonight! So hard when AF is here.

  • The Good: Lost 1 pound.

The Bad: Eating food makes me feel sick lately, so I have been skipping meals which isn't so great.

The Proud: Still drinking lots of water. I have been avoiding the sugar and candies and cookies, even though I'm on CD3 and want to have all the emotions to eat. LOL

Your Plan: I plan to try to log my food this week, even though it's crazy week for singing! Also try NOT to spend too much time in front of the TV (because we just got Cable). I think I will try to do crunches and jumping jacks in the commercial breaks.

QOTW: If you could choose between Hawaii and Alaska to vacation at, where would you choose and why? Well since I grew up in Hawaii, I think I would like to visit Alaska.

Good job on the weight loss!  Hopefully food will stop making you feel sick though!  That's definitely not good. :(
I'm sorry about CD 3, but it's good that you have been able to avoid bad food anyway!  I wish I had that kind of willpower!
Doing crunches and jumping jacks during the commercials is an awesome idea!

I don't even know what number of Saucony's I am on. I have a weird gate and go to a running specific shoe store that spent a long time with me determining which shoes work best. I have tried other brands and Sauconys are the only ones I can run in without getting sore knees. I generally like them...I've had this pair for like a year and a half....
