Snowsuits, Carseats and Cold Cars in the Morning

So we know that bulky snowsuits and jackets are a no-no in the carseat. What are your strategies for keeping the little one warm inside the car and on the trip to/from the car? Our car is freezing in the AM and takes a while to warm up. We also have to walk for a bit to reach the car through a cold parking structure so I'm looking for ideas. TIA!

BTW: We can't afford an automatic starter so what other options are there?

    We love our fleece suits like the one in the photo, lots of warm blankets and hats.

    I was going to suggest remote start until I got to the bottom!

    Anyways, you could wrap thick blankets around LO and put her coat on, on the way to the car then tuck the blanket around LO's legs. My DD will kick the blankets off in the car though. We were in a parade yesterday and I pulled out her leg warmers from last year and put them under her pants (her legs are a lot skinnier than last year). You could also do thin layers so 2 pairs of pants, a long sleeve t-shirt and a fleece over. Those shouldn't be too bulky in the car.... and put a hat on. You're supposed to lose like 70 something % if your body heat through your head....

    Excellent suggestions! Thanks ladies.  We can't start the car early because only one of us does drop off in the morning because the other is at work/school.  It would mean leaving him alone in the house for about 10 minutes.

    I start the car and go back in.

    I second the pea coat, I bought one for DD from Old Navy for our family Christmas pictures but its just the right "size" for the car seat. We do layer underneath it with a onesie and a long sleeve tee or a sweater with a hat and mittens and usually just one pair of pants. We don't have very far to go to get to the car so this works best for us, although we do have a bulky winter coat for when its really cold out or if we're spending any extra amount of time outside but we don't use it in the carseat. I also have a blanket I keep in the car to tuck around her legs, which she usually gets off herself but I figure all the effort to get the blanket off warms her up ;)
