My fifth limb

DD is soooooooo clingy! It's driving me crazy. If I'm not holding her hand, holding her, or having her sit in my lap then she freaks out. I'm trying to enjoy it as much as I can (I love the cuddles and such) but I can't get a thing done. Just getting her dinner prepared is next to impossible. Does anyone have any tips/experience/pointers that they care to share?

Re: My fifth limb

  • Have you tried a carrier?  I find putting LO on my back satisfies his clingly moods and keeps my hands free.

No tips, just commiserating. He wants me to hold him all evening.every evening. I try putting him in his highchair in the kitchen with a snack and a toy or (on the floor with a bin of toys )while I cook this usually buys me a little time. I figured(hoped) it's just a phase and it will improve on its own. I haven't worn him in the house in a while I might give that a try (thanks @Albertsgirl1982‌ ) good Luck @bermybabe68‌
  • @Albertsgirl1982‌ I think I'd break my back putting her in a carrier at this point :). She's a tall girl and not very light either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@Salemkitty13‌ Thanks for commiserating with me :).

@Joi922 All of what you said right down to pushing you away from the kitchen sink! Haha. Our computer is in the kitchen so the ONLY hope I have at distraction. I either put her in the bouncer (yup, I still have and use it) or on the kitchen floor with some pots n' pans and then turn on the youtube nursery rhymes. It'll buy me 15 mins max. And to think I swore down that my baby wouldn't watch any tv until she turned two! I eat my words.
  • Also commiserating.  Its AWFUL!  DS was never this bad.  I remember him going thru a period of this but nothing like DD.  She literally walks around with her arms outstretched crying until I pick her up.  Then if I do pick her up DS acts out because I think he feels slighted.  She does it at DC with her teachers too.  I don't know how to break her of it other then just knowing that it is a phase that she will hopefully work thru.  Sometimes I have to literally dodge her from grabbing on to my pant leg so that I can go to the bathroom or make dinner etc....

  • DD cries until I pick her up, and about 10 seconds later she pushes me away. I put her down, and she cries again.  I can't win.

  • @bermybabe68 It's true about the back.  My LO won't nap for me unless I put him in his ergo.  Today I realized my back was really feeling it after just a couple minutes whereas before I could have him in there for an hour with no problem.  Looks like I'm going to need another trick.

@RedDDD Today he almost pulled down my sweatpants trying to get my attention! Good thing I wasn't in public.  And going to the bathroom is now a group activity.

@Joi922 videos on YouTube are a LIFESAVER.  It was the only way we could get him to take his antibiotics for a recent bought of bronchitis and the only thing that saved me in yesterday's grocery store meltdown.  I try to make myself feel better that I only use it as a last resort.
