Resolve a Disagreement in the SAK house

edited December 2014 in Cloth Diapering
With doing no research on the topic, would you assume that the daytime version of cold medicines have something to keep you awake, or does it just not have the ingredients in it that make you drowsy?

  • Yes. Just doesn't make you drowsy. DayQuil does make me feel sick though-dizzy and lightheaded. I'm not sure why

Ditto. I only take it when I can't stand it anymore.

  • Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) can often cause lightheadedness or just plain strange feelings.  Typically dose dependent, so if you really want to take it try taking a lower dose.

  • I think it has something to keep you awake. But I'm a contrarian.

  • They just contain meds that don't make you drowsy, there isn't anything in them to actually help you stay awake, as everyone has said. However, the meds in daytime formula can affect some people by making them not able to sleep, as a side effect. My husband can't take daytime cold meds late in the day because they keep him up at night.

  • /sort of random anecdote that I feel like sharing.....D had to take some allergy meds every day as an infant. Something in the first brand we tried made him crazy wired. Like he'd literally start waving his arms and kicking his feet a mile a minute within 20 minutes of taking it. Needless to say we switched brands quickly!!

That's pretty common with benadryl.  It makes some people sleepy, it makes some kids crazy cakes.
