Gaining weight!!

This is my first pregnancy, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries this year. I'm now going on to 15weeks and I'm gaining so much weight! I had already gained abit of weight due to my condition before pregnancy and now Iv already gained 5-6kgs since I found out I was. I eat well, I crave home cooked healthy meals and fruit, I excercise as much as I can. Is anyone else in the same boat? I'm feeling abit down about it because I have a friend who is pregnant too and she's lost weight and looks good! I'm scared by the end of it I'm not going to be able to walk lol. Is there anything I can do or any suggestions? I don't see my midwife for another 2 weeks or so :/ and haven't seen anyone yet to talk to about it. Thanks for reading!

  • I'm 14 weeks and up 3-4kg, so you're not weird or in the danger zone yet. You're friend is just lucky, but everyone has a different body and a different pregnancy try not to compare too much. If you can get some light exercise, try to eat many small healthy meals a day (which it sounds like you're doing), and keep up your water intake. Ask if your doctor/midwife if they're concerned about your weight gain and if they have any suggestions, but I wouldn't sweat it yet.

  • @amby90 I'm in your same boat. I was dx with pcos early this year too. It sounds like you're doing everything right. Check with your dr about how much they expect/ want you to gain that might put things in perspective for you.
  • My first pregnancy I gained around sixty pounds, my second pregnancy I lost 11 then only gained 9, and with this one I've already gained 6. I have just accepted that pregnancy weight will do it's own thing and as long as you're healthy that's all that matters. You normally shed a lot of weight the first couple weeks pp because a majority of it is additional water and blood anyways. And, of course, baby :)
  • I was on the low side of normal weight before getting pregnant (being an endurance athlete will do that!) so when I cut back on my exercise intensity I immediately gained about 5 lbs (~2 kgs). I have held pretty steady since then, but I can tell the next wave of weight gain is coming soon as this little gremlin keeps growing!

Like PPs have said, just keep eating healthy and exercising as much as you can, and your OB will surely keep an eye on you and will address it if it becomes a concern. Good luck!

  • I gained 10 pounds by the time I was 8 weeks.  I have my 12 week appointment on Friday and I have no clue how much I've gained at this point.  My doctor said 1/2 pound is typically per week in the first trimester, but she wasn't concerned with my weight gain at my first appointment.  I eat healthy and exercise, so I'm trying not to think about it too much since there's not much I can do about it.
  • I've gained 15lbs so far. That's 10lbs less than all my previous pregnancies. You're normal, don't stress. Eat as healthy as you can, exercise as you can, and then let your body do its thing. Every body reacts to pregnancy differently, some gain, some don't. Everyone gains at different times too.

  • Thanx for all the awesome feedback ladies :) really appreciate it! X
  • I'm up 8lbs already in my first trimester. As long as my doctor isn't worried about it, I'm not going to be worried about it. Hang in there! Listen to your doctor.

  • I just went to the OB today and apparently I've lost four pounds. Is that healthy? I eat and snack a lot so I'm not starving and my clothes are getting tighter. I feel like I'm doing something wrong.
  • They didn't seem worried about it but said they would worry if don't gain for my next appointment. I'm still not completely placated about it though.
  • I'll probably wait it out until next appointment and see if I'm gaining. I was only 125 to start so I was just shocked to see the number go down especially since I haven't had any puking, just nausea.
  • Everyone gains differently.. And this has been my worry... But all my mommy friends told me not to worry about it until doctor tell u it is an issue...... I m trying to continue healthy meal and eating... But hard right now around the holidays....
I m 16 weeks and prob gained about 12 PD already
  • I'm in the exact same boat as you. I was 126 at my 8 week appointment. Last week I went at 12 weeks and weighed 120. My OB didn't seem concerned. I expect to have gained some back by my next visit. I also have not been vomiting so seems strange. So far, the baby seems happy and healthy. :-)
  • With the people who gained then lost some-- I am the same! I gained 4 pounds the first trimester and lost 2 since then--- I have no idea why because I am a little piggy right now. I have a feeling I end up putting on 10 pounds any day!
  • I've gained 12 pounds and am 15 weeks with twins! Yeah for gaining weight! Here is a weight tracker that can tell you how much you are gaining in comparison with what you should be gaining. It made me feel better!
