Cloth Diapering

breastfeeding, pregnancy, and (baby) poop

Has anyone who breastfed through pregnancy noticed any changes in LO after they got pregnant? Particularly the amount and consistency of poop. In the last 2 weeks P has pooped 2-3 times a day and it has been pretty soft. Prior to this he was going once a day and would let me know he had to go and would let me put him on the potty. On the rare occasion he went in his diaper it was always plop-able. I got a BFP on Thursday which would make the timing of the frequent pooping and getting pregnant pretty close. I'm wondering if the two are related, as I know hormones do crazy things, or if something else is going on. Has anyone experienced this? I don't want to wean yet, neither of us are ready, and even with the huge supply drop he still seems happy, so I'm going to try to keep nursing as long as possible.

  • congrats on your BFP!! When I got pregnant, Harper was only 10 months old and she seemed less interested in nursing (I didn't know I was pregnant yet). At 12 mos. exactly she stopped nursing altogether. I read that some babies can notice a change in the taste of it. I have no idea about the poop so I'm no help there. sorry. As long as he's still happy I would just stick with it.

  • I got pregnant when Vwas 9m, so solids still weren't the main part of his diet. But even now at almost 21mo the consistency changes a lot. Probably because from what he eats. He still nurses now, and I didn't really notice a difference when my supply came back either.
  • You know, I have no idea if they were related or not, but A had the worst soft, messy, stinky poops in her ON diaper every morning without fail after I got my BFP.

  • thanks guys... I'm just wondering if I should take him to the Dr or not. All the pooping seems to be causing weight loss and he's in the less than 1 percentile to start with.

Now that concerns me. Any time there is weight loss, I would see a doc.
