TTC After a Loss

Post-loss periods question

Hi ladies,
I am now on my fourth post-loss cycle and I've noticed that ever since my loss and D&C my periods are incredibly heavy. At first, I thought it was just some post-loss wonkiness but now it seems to be becoming the norm. Pre-pregnancy my periods were about 4-5 days with maybe the first 2 days being medium flow and the last 2 or 3 days light flow. Now they are about 6 days with at least 3 days of super heavy flow (no clots or anything like that). I'm just wondering if this is normal or if it could be indicative of some type of problem. Does it warrant a call to my doctor or is it still too early to expect things to be back to normal? Dr. Google is giving me all kinds of crazy concerns so I figured I'd see if any of you ladies have any experience with this. TIA!

Re: Post-loss periods question

  • I had the reverse issue so I don't really know much about what super heavy periods after a D&C can point to, if anything at all.

If you are really concerned it's never a bad idea to give your doctor a call.

  • A quick phone call to your dr is a good idea if you're concerned. I can tell you my periods before loss had 1 heavier day. Post loss I had 3 heavy days. Only in the last 2 months have they gone back to 1 heavy day (my loss was last October)

    PgAL welcome

  • Mine has increased and become my new normal. Pre loss I had extremely light periods only needed panty liners. It doesn't hurt to give the dr a call.

  • Before the loss my periods were 4 days. For the past couple I've had since the D&C they've been a good 6 days which I have never had. They've also been heavier. I haven't contacted my doctor though but I'm not too concerned...yet. But it's definitely strange for me.

  • Thanks for all of your input! I think I will mention it to my doctor but I'm glad to see others have had similar experiences. For some reason, I always am afraid to "bother" my doctor with things. I know I shouldn't be, and definitely need the reminder sometimes that it is okay to call.

  • My periods changed dramatically after my 2nd and 3rd miscarriage. after #2 from 24 days to 42 days. After #3 with DNC, back to 26 days and very light. Haven't been this light since I was a teen/early 20s. So, echoing what everybody else is saying, MCs change things. But they always say that if you are bleeding through more than 1 pad an hour, get it checked, but I would call just to reassure yourself. Most places have triage nurses that are there to answer these very questions. GL.

  • Mine definitely got heavier.  I mentioned it to my doctor; in my case she wasn't concerned, but absolutely you should feel like you can bring it up.  That is what you pay them for!
