postpartum hormones or pregnant???

I have a 5 month old, had my first PP period last month and currently using condoms as our birth control method! I am curious (and I apologize in advance for the TMI) what the possibility of getting pregnant is when using condoms? Heres the thing, sometime he will go in and then pull out, put a condom on an finish up. I realized that we had sex on two days, once on the day I should have been ovulating and once two days before. Its too early to take a pregnancy test but I have been feeling super nauseous and serious loss of appetite the last three days, also have been very very tired, a little lightheaded and certain smells make me almost vomit! I feel exactly like I did when I was pregnant with my first one. But it seems nearly impossible in my mind that I could get pregnant (being that I know no sperm entered into me)! I would be ok with it but just pretty shocked! I know time will tell and there is not much I can do but wait. But I just wanted to hear if that ever happened to anyone else. Maybe its just some crazy hormones im still having??

  • Yes, all sorts of pre-ejaculate fluid can have sperm in it (thus why the withdrawal method is generally not ideal), so if you want to be certain, he should wear a condom start to finish.  I'd take a test as soon as you can.

  • OK all you smarty pants, I was not asking u to tell me if I'm pregnant! Although i wish ya'll could! :)Its too early to take a test...hence the reason I said I will have to wait and see...I was simply curious if this is common or if anyone else got preggo from this type of situation! The time when its too early to take a test and all u can do is wait is the part the drives me crazy! :)
  • Not true...I had symptoms with my first pregnancy and took a test a week early which showed negative, then retested on day of expected period an got a positive!
  • When used correctly, condoms are 98% effective in preventing pregnancy. However, that would be using them from start to finish so I don't think that statistic will work for you.

The withdrawal method (Which is pretty much what you are doing) is anywhere between 73-96% effective, depending on male partner.

I can't say whether you are pregnant or not, but those are the statistics. It sounds like you will just have to wait until you can test.

I felt more "pregnant" when I was having PMS than I did the cycle I got pregnant. You have to have HCG in your system in order for the symptoms to be pregnancy related.

  • Pregnant enough to have symptoms is pregnant enough to turn a test.
Wait out the 2 weeks, POAS and seriously consider using contraception properly until/unless you want another one.
