Friend's Facebook announcement

A friend just posted on FB that she is pregnant. Congrats! Someone asked when she is due and she said September 1. That is impossible. Even if she conceived TODAY, she would be due August 29. So there is no way she knows she is pregnant and is due September 1. So odd!

I'm assuming she just found out she is pregnant and is just calculating some wonky way like adding 9 months to the day she found out or something. But it makes me so nervous when people post so early.

I agree. I had a friend announce on facebook at 4 weeks after 2 previous miscarriages. She is fortune that this one was her take home baby, and that she didn't have to untell a lot of people

After having two early losses and very little support, I give a lot of credit to those who share early. I wish I had in those cases. And I do believe every life is worth celebrating.

As for the EDD. I know a lot of people who give their 42w day as the due date since they will have a baby by then. This way they avoid the "is baby here?" " you're still pregnant!?" Etc comments.

I just keep telling everyone I'm due in July when it's very very more likely that I'll have a June baby.

I had a friend post one of the digital pregnancy tests that estimates how far along you are when it said "1-2 weeks". A few days later she posted that she wasn't pregnant anymore.

Edit: I actually agree that if you share early, you have a bigger support system. The only issue with my friend was that she did it for attention and then aborted, so people didn't give her the best reaction.

That's a great idea with the EDD! The questioning at the end is so annoying lol.

As for telling early some people are ok with it. I've always told as soon as we know. With this baby it was before 4 weeks lol. If I miscarry then there will be more support around. If I have a healthy baby then everyone will get to celebrate and enjoy with us longer

I told everyone the minute I got the double lines. I'm glad I did, I unfortunately lost a twin and had the biggest support I could of asked for. Earlier this week I had a huge bleed and again had a big support system. My pip is 10 weeks today.

I told about my last pregnancy at 8 weeks. Lost the baby at 11 weeks. In a long run I was glad people knew, because I was not alone with struggling with the loss, and the support and encouragement I received was totally priceless, and it opened my eyes to see how many people around me care about me. Despite that, with this one we decided to keep it a secret from the rest of the world besides the closest group of friends till at least 13 weeks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing early if you want to. Pregnancy is exciting.

That's an interesting idea, that some people give the 42 week date... that would make it make sense! I have been scratching my head on this one!

My first pregnancy DH and I found out when I was about six weeks, we had been trying for about three years so we told everyone from our parents to the lady in the grocery store line behind me lol! I lost the baby at twelve weeks and was seriously devastated by it. We had the biggest support system through my D&C and whole process. I don't think I would have changed telling anyone. I needed my family surrounding me with love and care to help me through that time. This time around we told our close family and coworkers, not letting the cat out of the bag to the Facebook world yet.

We have always planned to wait and tell people when we were further along, but the week we were going to announce last year we lost, same thing this fall. We always post about the loss, because for us, each is a gift from God and we want to celebrate their lives. We announced this time very early, because people have been asking to pray for us! It has been an incredible journey and for us, we wouldn't have it any other way!

I have a Facebook friend right now who I suspect is suffering a miscarriage. She announced at 5 weeks and posted belly pics all the way to 9 weeks, had her first unsound last week and found out she's only 6 weeks along according to the ultrasound. This week she's saying desperate things like "the devil won't win, he is trying to trick me with these evil doctors." Its so sad but I think she might get her miscarriage diagnosis soon.

Well, we seem to have a Sept. board already active with a few posts. So, maybe it is possible? I'm too tired to try and do any real math in my head right now.

But either way, I personally think some things should be kept off Facebook and these early announcements are one of them. If you are looking for support, tell your family and close friends. Your neighbor from 4th grade whom you haven't seen in 10 years but are FB friends with doesn't really need to known this kind of info. Facebook = not a diary.

I announced on facebook. I only have family and friends on their, I have 54 friends, 40 of them are family. What's the point in having people you used to know snooping around your life. So I think every situation is different, I'm glad I had the support.

I wish my facebook was whittled down like yours. I'll have to put that on my todo list before baby arrives. It's a shame facebook makes it so tedious to remove each person.

I have no idea... if LMP was today the EDD would be mid Sept. Maybe it's embryo transfer and she already knows she's getting some 3 or 5 day embryos?

Yep! I only have friends and family that I talk to. No elementary school kids I haven't seen since grade 6 haha
