I am so nervous about taking care of a baby....I literally have NO IDEA what I am doing.
How do I know when he is hungry? He cries
How do I know when he is tired? He cries
How long do I let him sleep? Until he cries
How often will he need to eat and for how long? He cries
How much will he need to eat? As much as he wants (God made them to know)
What if he is colicky? He cries
How do I know if he is too hot or too cold? He cries
How do I establish a sleep pattern for him? He does that
What is the water to formula ratio? It is on the container
How many oz of formula does he need to eat? What he wants

Her next email: She said these are her "real" answers.
How do I know when he is hungry? He will start to cry if he is uncomfortable in any way. Newborns will eat anywhere from 2-4 hours…
How do I know when he is tired? He will start to cry and you can tell because his eyes will get heavy. Usually they are awake only long enough to start to feed and then they go back to sleep when they are newborn…you will “learn Blake within the first day”
How long do I let him sleep? The #1 rule for a baby….AS LONG AS THEY WANT TO SLEEP…DON’T WAKE A SLEEPING BABY J
How often will he need to eat and for how long? Usually every 2-4 hours and they will stop when they are full (God made them that way)
How much will he need to eat?
What if he is colicky? Good luck on this one…I will pray he isn’t…..Willie was and I about wore a mark through the carpet from walking up and down the hallway…
How do I know if he is too hot or too cold? You can feel his body and tell…usually keep them one layer more than us..
How do I establish a sleep pattern for him? Again, he will decide…At least that is what I believe…some people want a sleep pattern so much that they will allow the baby to just cry until they fall asleep…I never did that…I basically ran my life around my infants..
What is the water to formula ratio? It is on the container
How many oz of formula does he need to eat? Again, as much as he wants
I feel like I could figure out the answers to all of these, but I am just worried.....
The good news is that I am just a phone call away….any time of day or night…I don’t even care if it is in the middle of the night and you say “Mom, I just can’t do this” (I said that to Grandma once when I had Willie)….she told me to put him in his crib walk out of the room and shut the door…..I had to for that brief moment…until the guilt set in and I “snapped out of my pity party”…I will talk you through anything as best I can…basically, you just try different things until you figure out if it works…first give them something to eat….if they cry…then maybe the stomach is upset to try to burp them….check the diaper…..check the body temperature…..check….check….check….and then….maybe he will just “feel” like crying and you are screwed….LOL
No worries!!!!
