I was gonna bitch about this in the now-randoms thread, but y'all seem to like new threads, so I'm being a big ol' AW about it instead.
My employer has decided to require that all employees are required to attend their annual winter meeting. Should be a total of 3-4 nights. So far I haven't been able to get anywhere in asking them to help me cover babysitting costs, and maybe shorten the length of my trip to ensure I can actually *find* a sitter for the length of time they need me there.
I know lots and lots of moms travel all the time, and its part of their job, and they just fucking deal with it. I don't mean to be insensitive to that. And honestly, if I had some familial support or a co-parent, this would be a non-issue. I'm just feeling sick to my stomach about having to shell out a couple hundred dollars just so I can attend a series of meetings.
I'm sure everything will work out in the end, I'm just stressing and needed to talk to someone about it. So... thanks.
Re: Required Travel / Single Momming (stress vent)
How far does your family live? Is thwre any way you can send your DS to stay with them while you're gone? If.not, I'd maybe try to sit down with your boss and have a frank conversation about how much its really go I to cost you to find a sitter while you're away. Maybe there is an option for you to telecommute to the meeting?
I have a friend who did this on a couple of business trips because it was cheaper for her to buy her friend a plane ticket and pay her expenses than to hire a babysitter for the whole time.
