Low Fluid?

Hey all. Had my a/s today (go team pink!) and Dr. was a little concerned. Said that my fluid looked a little low and that there seemed to be a slight issues with the baby's kidneys (they seemed to be connected as opposed to two separate entities). He was a little concerned but not overly worried, and just asked that I come back for a follow up US in a few weeks. Have any others ever had low fluid or the kidney problem? Did it pan out to an issue or resolve on its own? I'm not looking for medical advice, just "been there, done that". Thank you in advance :)

Re: Low Fluid?

  • Thanks all. Of course I came home and googled... The low fluid is a lot scarier than the kidney thing. Hopefully it will amount to nothing, and will resolve on its own. I appreciate all of the well wishes

  • I had this at my anatomy scan also. I was sent to labor and delivery because the tech thought my water had broken because it looked so low, and thought that my fluids were leaking. Luckily after testing, it was not. My baby does have normal kidney, bladder and stomach function, so they couldn't figure out why it would be low. I had a sonogram once a week for 3 weeks and at the last one with a specialist they said that my fluid is perfectly fine, and that they can't even correctly measure fluid before 24 weeks because of something with the quadrants and the baby moving around so much. I stopped Googling because the answers I saw were all worst case scenario.

It's a scary thing to hear so early in pregnancy but the odds are good that things will turn out to be normal by your next sonogram. Congrats on the baby girl!
  • Sorry no advice but I hope your follow up goes well.

  • Wishing you well and that everything looks better at the next scan. The "wait and see" thing is nerve-wracking. Hugs!
  • @Anicole14‌ thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm hoping that's what will happen with me as the doctor was sure to mention a few things about angles and measurements not always being accurate, etc. Really really hoping that this is nothing major, as we have worked so hard for this baby!

Thank you all for the wishes, you're all such supportive and wonderful women. I truly appreciate it.

  • No experience with this but I hope all looks good at your follow up. Sending you and your LO positive pee pee thoughts. Try and really push your water intake. I had the low amniotic fluid problem withy son later in pregnancy. All looked good at the follow up with increased fluid intake.

Thanks @Jlotterman‌. I was told to increase fluids, too, but I already drink 12 plus glasses of water a day. I'm trying for more. Of course I'll do anything I can to help keep baby safe.

  • I hope everything turns out okay! No experience with this specifically, but I also need a follow up ultrasound for different reasons and the wait seems endless. Keep us updated.
  • I don't have experience with this, I'm just stopping by to say you're in my thoughts and I hope your next scan is great! Congrats on the baby girl as well!
  • @fro88‌ I'm glad I could give you some positive reassurance! I was told to increase fluids as well, 3-4 liters of water a day, and something with electrolytes to balance out all the water. I don't know if it actually helped but it can't hurt! T&p for a positive outcome for you!
  • At the anatomy ultrasound with our son I was found to have no amniotic fluid and was sent to a perinatologist for a level 2 ultrasound which confirmed that he did not have any kidneys. Sometimes kidneys can be a little dilated or have an obstruction that can cause the low fluid. Thoughts and prayers to you! Keep us updated.
