Pregnant after a Loss

PGAL Brain - Talk me Down!

Hey ladies! Hope everyone is doing well on this Friday!

I'm hoping you guys can talk some sense into me... Baby Sparrow has always been very very active, but I noticed today around 1:30 that I hadn't noticed him being very active at all today.  So after a shower, I drank some ice water and laid down on my left side to do a kick count.  I've got an app on my tablet that I've only used one other time, just to see how it worked, because this little boy is so active I don't usually need it.  But I used it today, and it took 30 minutes to get to 10 movements (and they were small, not big like normal), whereas he usually hits 10 within a few minutes.

However, I know that 10 movements in 30 minutes is still well within the normal range for babies, but he just seems not as active, even though my activity level is about the same as it always is.

As I was in the shower waiting for him to move, I couldn't stop thinking about the what-if's, which is ridiculous, I know, but that's pgal brain... This whole pregnancy, I've been entirely paranoid for no good reason... I can't help but wonder at what point it changes from paranoia to instinct...

He seems to be moving a bit more as I type this, so that's a good sign. I just need some encouragement...

Thanks in advance, ladies!

Re: PGAL Brain - Talk me Down!

  • Oh I feel your anxiety! Yesterday I ended up calling my OB for the same exact reason and having a non-stress test. Baby was totally fine. My OB recommended something sugary to get him moving - have you tried some OJ Or candy?

  • @sgio7485 I had a bowl of ice cream right before my shower because I was craving it... Didn't seem to affect him... My doc is about 45 minutes away from me, so I'm hesitant to call if it's just him having a lazy day, but I also don't want to not call when I should have...

  • My LO totally just had a lazy day, but I did feel better even just calling the OB. Could you call them just for some peace of mind? I would still try something sugary and see if that might wake him now. And the fact that you're feeling movement is good, even if it's not big movements you're used to.

  • That can be so stressful. I'm sorry. There have been a few days like that for me. One landed me in the ob's office for an nst because I was so freaked. The doctor told me then and has told me a few other times that 10 kicks in 30 minutes or 50 minutes is just as fine as 10 in 10. I'm sorry you are having a rough PgAL day. (((hugs)))

  • I can definitely relate to this.  I once laid down on my work bathroom floor (yes, you read that correctly) to be able to focus and do kick counts.  I hate it when they have a 'slow' day, but it happens!  I think their position and sleep pattern for the day have a lot to do with it.  But I will say that if you're ever worried about it, call your doctor!  Even if it's to request a quick pop in to check on him with the doppler. This exactly. I was just thinking yesterday- should I be worried? I always worry I am over reacting, but it's nice to know others are experiencing the same thing, no matter how scary, and that its normal- both the worrying AND what's going on.

  • Oh - so sorry that you had that scare but I'm glad that baby is more active now.  I had a scare like that a couple of weeks ago and my OB suggested orange juice and a donut :)  However, since that time, she's been crazy busy - almost like the calm before the storm.
