I didn't ready every word but it's not adding up completely to me. The part where the cops went out to this guy's area because of a suspected robbery and loud music. Why did the suspect run? Because of the pills? They fought and officer thought a pill bottle was a gun?

  • Aaaaah! Did you see that video? So sad. Guy never even knew the cops were there until too late.

  • Back in September - this poor man was shot in South Carolina after being stopped for a seatbelt violation.  The cop asked for his license, when the man reached into his car to get it, the cop started shooting.  It is unbelievable. This trooper was fired, arrested and charged and thank God the victim of the shooting survived.

This is probably flammable, but I've been looking at the black men I work or am friends with differently lately. Not "differently" like in a judge way. Like, I don't find black men (or women or children) scary. Anyway, I've been trying to see my coworkers and friends to see if they would automatically look threatening in different clothes or at night. I just don't see it. I know it's dangerous to be a cop, and I know that in minority areas obviously most of the criminals will be minorities (the opposite is true in white areas), but I just don't know why a guy being black automatically makes him scary. I was talking with a dad at basketball practice last night, not about any of this, but I was looking at his adorable 5 year old triplets and wondering if they will REALLY suddenly look frightening or threatening in 10 years instead of just gangly and awkward and insecure like all 15 year olds. Their dad didn't look frightening or threatening. He looks like a nice guy and a devoted dad (who needs more sleep).

Ugh! This needs to stop now! While it's true that in all 3 of the cases making national news recently, the victim has been resisting the cops or running away, I just don't see that as an excuse. I really doubt that at least ALL of them would have died if they had been pale.

Interestingly, I never looked at someone and thought to myself that they looked scary, regardless of color. But, since I've moved to an area with a lot of gang activity (Bloods), when I see a black man, or woman walking down the street wearing lots of red, I am scared. This doesn't translate to the rest of my life, but in my neighborhood, it's definitely true. The gang affiliation scares the living shit out of me.

But, it would be the same if it was the MS-13s, or whatever. Color not the issue. The violent affiliation is.

    I'm not sure I have a point....

Officer shoots man and texts union rep instead of calling for rescue while patrolling an area they were not supposed to patrol.
