We are bringing LO to nyc Saturday and staying overnight. We have dinner reservations. What do you do about bringing LO in taxi with no car seat. We are driving there but it's also supposed to down pour all day and night.
When we went to NYC we installed the car seat in the taxi from the airport to hotel and back. The rest of the time we just took the subway to avoid having to install it again.
I live in NYC. You can take your car seat and install in a cab....almost all of them have the latch system. Alternatively, you can take public transit (what I tend to do). By law your child does not have to be in a car seat in a taxi. I won't lie if we aren't going far and it's not rush hour I've taken her in a taxi with no car seat and strapped her in the seat belt with me. Again only if we aren't going far.
As mentioned above, Uber Family does have a car seat option. We have also used this. It's a forward facing car seat and I think the weight limit is 20-25 lbs. It's actually a nice car seat but not nearly as all encompassing as your car seat would be. Still better than nothing. If you download the Uber app to your smart phone then I think you have to enter a code (I think it's car seat) and that unlocks uberfamily for use. The catch is that you have to use uberx (a bit more expensive because it's a bigger car) and there is a $10 fee for the car seat. See the link below for the details on uberfamily.
Honestly I think I would just drive our own car because it seems like a huge pain to install/uninstall a car seat in the taxi just to go to dinner. What would you do with the darn thing when you were at dinner anyways? Carrying it along with you seems like it wouldn't be worth the hassel to go out to dinner. If this weren't an option, I would try to find a restaurant close to where we were staying to avoid this issue all together or like other's have mentioned maybe take the subway if possible. Then again, we're not huge going out to dinner people and we wouldn't think it was a big deal to find a closer place within walking distance to save time and the hassel, I guess it depends on how important going to the place you have reservations for dinner is.
