NCDR- postpartum pants

OK- so I'm at that in between stage where I don't have enough belly left to hold up maternity pants, but way too much belly to fit into pre-pregnancy pants. I'd rather not spend money on an in-between size if I don't have to, since I (hopefully) won't be this size for very long. Any suggestions for what to do on the pants end of things? (As opposed to "get more exercise" and "eat less pie.") Thanks!

  • Can you do the hair tie trick to make the pregnancy pants fit? Or a belly band?

  • Dude, just buy some pants that fit. Seriously, it's much better than trying to cram into too small pants or wearing baggy maternity pants that fall down.
I agree with this if your weight loss is slowing down. I almost bought new pants at 3 weeks PP and I was so glad I didn't because I was only that size for like 5 minutes.  I bought new pants around 10 weeks PP and they fit for awhile.
  • Also though, do you work or SAH?  If you work, it's worth buying some pants that fit and make you feel good about yourself.  If you SAH, you can probably get away with yoga pants, bella bands, hair tie tricks, etc.

  • Honestly, I feel like I want pants that fit ASAP because I SAH. Like, I already wear frumpy, milk and spit up covered 'at home' clothes 24/7, and combing my hair starts to become a luxury rather than a priority, and it makes me feel more like a person putting on stuff that fits and looks halfway presentable when I leave my house.
Yeaaaah. I wore sweats and the tshirt I slept in last night to Walmart today.

Oh I totally do this too, but having the option of real, well fitting pants is a necessity IMO.

  • I guess the issue is that if my last pregnancy is any indication, this size/shape are only temporary. I think I was in pre-pregancy pants at around 6 weeks pp last time- although is was late summer, not the holiday season, so there were many more walks and much less pie, and I had a much harder recovery the first time, so I wore mostly sweat pants for that first month. My early pregnancy options don't work because I was pretty sick, so I only got bigger in the belly at the beginning, where now I have the late pregnancy butt and thigh fluff left over, too. During early pregnancy I just wore regular pants and accepted that I looked fat in them. I think I blew the buttons off of a couple of pairs. Maybe I'll try the bella band thing for a few weeks, and if I'm still fluffy I'll break down and buy bigger pants.

I'm temporarily a SAHM- I have a six month leave from my job (mostly unpaid, but my job will still be there.) I've always found yoga pants alarming on myself- they're fine on other people, but I feel like I'm highlighting the scary parts when I wear them. (Maybe that belongs on the UO post?) I kind of agree that the fact that I'm home full time right now makes me want to look like a functioning person more, not less, and now that my lady bits have healed I don't want to wear pajama pants if I'm not "sleeping," or whatever the overnight routine with a newborn could be called. My clothes will have spit up on them no matter what I'm wearing.

I don't know why it's highlighted like I'm quoting myself. I'm a little bit technologically challenged.

  • Definitely try to carve out a moment when you can get at least one pair of looks-good-now pants. You don't want to be crying in your closet 20 minutes before the family Christmas get-together bc nothing fits. (I speak from personal experience.)

  • Oh gosh, y'all this was from my first kid! I learned my lesson and now have big girl pants of several sizes for most occasions. I have also discovered the magic of bulky sweaters and fluffy scarves!

Seriously.  Everyone should do themselves a favor and buy rollover jersey skirts like these:

Those appear to be a slightly different version than the ones I have, but mine seriously fit me through like 4 different dress sizes.  And they feel like sweatpants.  Need I say more?

  • I like dresses. I'm terrible at pairing tops and skirts.

  • me too, jane.  and most dresses make breastfeeding impossible.  unless you're in to pulling the entire thing up over your head in front of a crowd of people

Omg. Yeah-why are dresses impossible? And nursing dresses are expensive!

  • I can't wear leggings to work everyday. And skirts, even long ones, in -10 weather are not happening. If I have to stick my butt out a car door for 10 minutes to get kids buckled properly I need wool slacks or at least double knit.

  • Actually I have a couple of summer dresses that I can nurse in. They're cheap ones from Target and Walmart, but they have deep v fronts, so they work.
