Bummer, Lottie doesn't really go well with the names of my other kids and I just can't do Char. Our baby name book suggested Charlie and my hubs loves the idea.
@southminnieapplemamaI have a Charlotte - she goes by Charlie and introduces herself as Charlie (she is 2). I love it, she loves it, and everyone she encounters thinks she is adorable so it works for her I would never ever call her Char - I hate that name and thankfully no one has ever tried calling her that!
If you liike the NN Charlie, which it seems you do since you asked for spelling of that, not other NNs, I would go with the normal spelling of Charlie
I will dissent and also say that I like the nn Charlie on a girl. No matter what you do, not everyone will love it, so I would just worry most about what you and your husband like. As long as her given name is nice and proper, then I don't think it should make much difference what her nickname is.
I love the name Charlotte because 1) it's a beautiful, girly name if that suits my daughter and 2) if my daughter preferred it she could go by Charlie (I know as a kid I would have 100% gone with Charlie, bc it's a great combo of cute AND tomboy). I went to camp at age 11 and met a girl named Charlie and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Thanks for weighing in ladies! I really feel like Charlotte is a very big and formal name for a tiny baby and I nickname everyone I love. I thought Charlie would be cute for a little girl and she would still have a great name for resumes and important things.

This. Go for it mama, you aren't going to please everyone on here but I gaurentee when your daughter introduces herself as Charlotte but says I go by Charlie, people won't think anything bad like "oh that names meaning is "man"". It's classy and cute and I think times have changed and many names have become unisex! If it's not someone's style that's fine they just don't need to use it.
But to answer your ultimate question, just spell it normal Charlie
I'm a Charlotte who hated it when people tried to give me a nn. Charlotte is 2 freakin' syllables, it's the same length as almost all the nns for it! I refused all nns.
Appreciate this! My DD is Clementine and mostly goes by Clementine but ppl always ask for a nn...3 syllables..come on... Is that too much to ask for?! *rant over*
I love the name Charlotte and wouldn't use a nn. If you are going to use a nickname why not just name her the nn? but if you HAD to...i think the Carly idea is different and cute.
I adore the nn Charlie for Charlotte, so much so that I gave my frenchie pup the name 2 years ago. Now, I'm back to the drawing board for this human baby.
Edited to add this: if you do choose the nn, stay with the correct spelling. I had a friend name her girl Charli. Awful.
I have a niece Charlotte. My sister named her that thinking she would NN her Charlie. Charlotte turned out to be a girly girl and doesnt like when we call her Charlie. We actually even call her Char, something we said we'd never do!
I have a student Charleigh who is absolutely adorable. (Spelling isnt my favorite but i do love her name!)

No name really needs a NN ever...its all personal preference and choice...
